The most common reason for failure of links is an incorrect web address. And the most common mistake is not including the first part of the address: "http://" or "https://". While you can cut and paste a web address without this prefix, you cannot create an active Link in its absence.

I was on my iPad responding to an inquiry and posted a link. However, I couldn't figure out how to apply the "link" attribute to the URL as I have done above. I am working from a laptop now, so it's easy to highlight the text and apply the "link" command. I tried to do that from my iPad this morning, but was not successful. I was able to highlight all the text by expanding the selection box, but clicking on the "Link" button gave an error message of "no text selected". I suppose I could add the HTML link tags (open and close) around a comma delimited pair of identical URLs when using a touch-screen interface (iPad, iPhone, etc), but that seems cumbersome. Is there an easier way to create an active link from a touch-screen interface?
Thanks to the moderator, by the way, that activated that link before I got back to a keyboard. I'm glad the moderators are so helpful, but I hate to be a bother so if there is a simple way to make the link work myself I would be happy to manage that.

Lars - I have had the same problem using my phone. I can highlight the text but I cannot use any of the things like "underline" or "link".
Occasionally my computer does not cooperate with me when trying to activate a link but on my cell phone (touch screen), it does not work.
I actually also have a touch screen laptop and perhaps I should try here to see if it works.

But how to just put "Geography and Stamps" words with a link?
It doesn't work - So we need TECH advice from the WIZARD - Calling Tim Auld to Switchboard please!

I do not know the answer. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that the mobile devices are using operating systems that do not support the SOR platform? I will leave this one up to Tim.

I just tried it again from my iPad and the link applied to the entire post instead of the selected URL. I am able to hard code the HTML link call by adding an opening link tag (I can't type it here without creating an error) followed by the URL, a comma, the URL again, and a closing HTML link tag, but that seems a bit much.

I think you are essentially correct, but I would say the SOR platform does not fully support touch-screen interface protocols (most notably iPads and mobile devices).
It's not too big of a deal for me because I do most of my posts via laptop with a keyboard/mouse interface. However, there have been a few occasions where I was in a waiting room or similar situation just killing time when I checked the latest posts on SOR. Usually I made a mental note to follow-up later or posted a quick reply, but recently when I tried to post a URL via iPad, I couldn't make it work.
I am very grateful a Moderator quickly jumped in and made the URL work, and while I could get used to that level of service, I recognize that takes precious time away from the Moderator that had to make the link work.

I can't get it to work either. I just tried it on my ipad. You can select the URL ok, but it doesn't carry over when you press the Link button. The JavaScript on the ipad doesn't seem to work the same way on the mobile device. I'm using the Chrome browser on the ipad. What browsers are you using?
I'll do some research and see what I can find.

I just did a Google search on the problem. There is quite a bit out there. I'll look into it further tonight and let you know what I find.

I use Safari. The last time I tried, if I lit up the URL and expanded the box to include the entire URL, then touched the "Link" button, it applied the link tag to the entire post. I'll see if I can recreate it on this thread with my iPad.

I'm on a Samsung Galaxy which runs on Android - so whatever Google has included for the browser - that's all the info I know.
I'll download Firefox and see if I can get it to work.
Nope - nothing with Firefox either, just a crappy looking browser - lol

Since the button that applies the link is a Javascript function, the first thing to check is that your device has Javascript enabled ... it may not by default.
For Android devices, I found these instructions:

The problem is that one of the standard JavaScript events does not work on mobile devices. I have found another event that I can use but it causes bugs in other areas, so I have a little more work to do.

Does anyone remember the stamp exchange circuits of years back. They were great and good way of getting stamps and getting rid of your duplicates. I really enjoyed those and found them a easier and lot less time absorbing than having regular exchange partners. However it has been a long time since I have seen on and wondering f any knows of any that maybe floating around the world as I have not married and changed my name since those days but my address as well.
If anyone knows of any or is still involved with them could you please contact me through stamporama.

When you post a link in the discussion board, always check and make sure it works before leaving the thread. If it doesn't, and you are unsure as to why, do not hesitate to contact myself or one of the other moderators for assistance.
