For me:
February 13, 1955
I was born in Germany, so would like to get a cover from Germany for the birthdate. Cancel from the city of Morbach would make it perfect.
July 6, 1951
I'd rather FDC, but postal cancel would be considered. Oh what the hey, if it were on an animal that would be terrific.
Luree
April 5, 1937
I would like anything with that cancel.
Doug
Friday 20 February 1959
Anything cover,FDC,postmark anything at all
April 1, 1969.
I'll take any year with an April 1st postmark, because I'm a fool.
-Les
I will start looking for those posted..
April 14, 1968 for me.. Any cover .. Ohio is a bonus!
Thx
Jere
I'll recap these weekly to make it easier for folks to find. "Any cancel" means any cancel on a mailed cover, FDC, postal card, etc. that bears this exact date.
Cocollectibles: Sept 13, 1955; any cancel
michael78651: Feb 13, 1955; German cancel, if possible Morbach
purrfin2: July 6, 1951; FDC. Postal cancel considered. Terrific if on an animal!
d1stamper: April 5, 1937; any cancel
gyana1230: Feb 20, 1959; any cancel
bluparrot: April 1, 1969; any cancel
Jeredutt3: April 14, 1968; any cover; Ohio is a bonus
Seriously, M#s doesn't care if it's on a specific issue???
No, it doesn't matter what stamp is on the cover. Just want one with my actual birthdate. Not collecting it for the value of the cover or stamp.
Michael, why Morbach?
March 1, 1948 (Austin, TX cancel if at all possible)
I'd take, on cover or on a stamp:
15 April 1965
North Bay, Ont. Canada
Would trade handsome;y for it!
Thank-you,
David
Morbach is the town I was born in.
"Morbach is the town I was born in."
I'll update the list of all requests every Saturday, so if you posted something between listings, rest assured I will add you to the list. If you post a second time, I'll modify your request if needed, but will not list you more than once. I'm doing this in case we drift to other discussions (not discouraging this!) and to keep this post refreshed at least weekly. If the time comes when we no longer get any requests, I'll leave it at the last listing of all requests.
I have a lot of covers, and I've started sorting them by country and then by cancel date, so I'm sure I'm going to find at least your birthday, if not actual year too. I'm happy to send one to anyone on the list if I should find it; my compliments.
Cheers,
Peter
June 22 1946 any cover or stamp
July 4, 1942--any stamp, cancel etc. Warren, Ohio would be an unbelievable bonus
Roger
Fun thread.. And thx for reminding me. I have 2 penny blk to check for the project.. Task list started for tomorrow. Love collecting..always something to do!
For years I have looked for any stamps cancelled on November 22nd, (cdj1122) and found a few but the prize would be November 22nd, 1939, on a cover that went through the mail that day. The perfect prize would cancelled in Brooklyn, New York with a recently issued NY World's Fair stamp. But so far if such a momento ever crossed my path, I was oblivious to it that day.
April 2 any year but I was born in 1958
I collect FDC's of stamps issued on my birthdate. I try to get as many different cachets as possible for the stamp. Here is a link with some of my favorites. Click on the "First Day Covers" link. My Berlin Airlift Exhibit on this website is one of the stamps issued on June 26.
I have two covers postmarked on the day of my birth (June 26, 1962). One is commercial and one is an FDC from Brazil for the Metric System. It's kind of funny that I had the FDC from Brazil sitting in a box for years before I ever realized what I had. Those covers are on the main page of the website site.

It looks like this board cannot handle the tilda symbol, it removes the tilda from the URL. You are going to have to copy and paste the link and replace (tilda) with an actual tilda symbol.
http://home.comcast.net/~parkinlot/
Thanks,
Bob
Bob, I've added you to the list for June 26 FDC.
BTW, not to be pedantic, but (and you knew that was coming) ... it's tilde and for those who don't know, it looks like this.
Pedantically yours,
Peter
Thanks Coco!!!
To type a tilde, type an ampersand (&) followed by #126, (if I actually type it, it will produce a tilde) - so, pretending $ = &, type $#126 wherever you want a ~.
According to the standard ASCII set for HTML (Latin characters), this code is supposed to end with a semi-colon, but on this board it will work either way. To see a complete list of Codes, CLICK HERE.
BTW, if you preview or edit your message, you will have to re-enter that code each time as it only works with the initial publication.
Thanks Bobby,
It works in the non-hyperlink where you have to copy and paste but not in the hyperlink.
Sorry. I didn't realize you were talking about hyperlinks - whole 'nother kettle o' fish! Although the tilde is an unreserved character and should work without special coding (called percent-encoding), you can use the code %7e to enter a tilde in a URL.
I suppose it has nothing to do with dancing or Waltzing Ma Tilda
While Charlie sits and waits until his Billy boils ...

Bump. No others have listed their birthdays on this post.
Peter
Mine would be July 31, 1973 any cancel would be fine.
Alyn
Here is the list in a different format: Sorted by birth year, then month, then day to make it easier to find cancels with that date. Again, if you have any changes, or additions, let me know.
Cheers,
Peter
What a great idea.
Mine is July 5 1957
Any country, any city will be good.
I agree, an excellent idea. My birthdate is April 7th 1956. An Australian cover with this date would be great.
Regards ... Tim
Mine is December 19, 1952

And all this time I heard the average age of a stamp collector is 70 years old.
"And all this time I heard the average age of a stamp collector is 70 years old."
Darn! you got me. Actually, John & I went fishing. As you can see from the picture the person sitting
next to Jesus is Mary Magdalene not John.
my 2 sons told their Sunday School teacher that I was good friends with Noah and helped build the Ark, so I guess I must be older than you Carl
Actually, I have been told by ?good? friends that the average age of stamp collectors is dead.
My birthday is August 2, 1942 and I would also be happy with any country any city but would love Peoria, Illinois
Jack
We've had quite a few new additions so here is the list, earlier than usual.
Looks like I get to bring down the average age just a smidge.
March 14, 1969
Not that I am particularly keen on covers from my date of birth, though now I will have to look for one sent by Seattle General Hospital on that day. Would be interested in any covers from Seattle on that date.
April 10, 1973 - a Guelph, Ontario, Canada postmark or an fdc from Canada, Germany, DDR or USSR.
Here is the latest list.
Hey Peter, I didn't know you were born on the 13th too. Wasn't Doug also born on the 13th? No wonder the three of us are so crazy.
Yes, it explains a lot!
I turned 13 on Friday the 13th. My superstitious mother avoided me all day. Too bad I didn't have a black cat back then.
I should clarify - Guelph, Ontario for an fdc or a Canadian cover. OR a German or USSR cancelled in April 10, 1973.
Changed on the master list.
" .... And all this time I heard the average age of a stamp collector is 70 years old....."
Actually, I've looked at such columns of numbers several times over the years in different clubs and an average (mean) in the mid-fifties is about right
No updates since the last one, as below.
Hey guys I just got a bunch of covers given to me. I don't collect covers myself and so will take a look. If I find any matching the above "wishlist" I will let the person know and hopefully we will be able to trade!
Well, what a great idea!
My date is Sept. 4, 1944 so any FDC or other cancel from Canada or UK would be super.
Now to look at my stash to match up with any on the list(oops, I just took the average age up a couple of notches)!!
...SOR is never short on new ideas.
Wig
Very generous members! Thanks guys.
wigalso, I've added yours to the database. I will repost it on Saturday.
Cheers,
Peter
What a great idea! July 11th, 1943. If anyone happens to have one from Yakima, Wa. I would pay handsomely for it! Thanks, Theron.
Theron has been added.
I have sorted through those covers I received and here are the dates I have, none of them are on the current list so that is why I am posting them.
If I have a date you were looking for I can send you an image of it so you can decide. I would like to trade them for used Canadian stamps.

Somebody wanted a January date so here is mine.
January 1, 1942. Yes a New Years baby. Any cover, if one exist.
Mel
Okay, just for Mel, here is the updated list.
Mine is July 17, 1982
Any cancel
Thanks trabz. Here is the latest list.
Mine is 3/23/53
Mine is June 1st 1945....Victoria BC would be super but any place would be great...
Mine is June 12, 1961
Any cancel but New Hartford, NY or Utica, NY would be a plus
Thank you for doing this
Catching up with the latest three now.
Hi
My birthday was October 13, 1960, which I believe was a Thursday. Lots of Friday the 13th birthdays since then with no ill effects. Would love to have a Canadian cover postmarked Oct 13/60. They must be out there!
Eric
Mine's 6th May 1840. Anywhere from GB would be nice. Will trade wife and children.
"Mine's 6th May 1840. "
Priceless response Peter! You gave me a much needed smile. ♥
Although HE wasn't even born yet in 1840! lol
Maybe Ningpo is eyeing a penny black hence the date?

I would like to find any April 29 cancels on cover, postcards or on stamps. One from Wichita Falls Texas on April 29, 1971 would be the ultimate, my actual birthday and birthplace.
Any chance I could get the master list in excel format? I will keep my eye out for other member's requested dates.
I just learned this list exists!! Thanks, Bobby, for directing me to this. How very fun! The group is much younger than I thought - so many of us are baby boomers. I'm 7 11 57. All odd and it fits LOL. I would LOVE a cover or stamp with the date - anything. I'll have to print out the list and keep an eye out for those.
Cheers!
I'm glad this showed up in my last 30 days. I'll take a cancel from May 25, 1970.
Thanks
Stan
Best of all, it provides me a ready excuse for my natine curmudgeonly behavior.
Since I joined SOR after this thread started, I'm glad it showed up in my "Last 30 By Time." Great idea! I'd like to add: June 3, 1959. SON cancel, cover, or anything. A Champaign-Urbana Illinois, Chanute AFB, or Rantoul postmark would almost hit the delivery room.
Next question is, How many have we found? Any? Would it be possible to: 1) keep track of and display successful matches, and 2) each week highlight one search on the SOR front page or a link to it from the front page? If not that, maybe a link under "Member Activities"? Showing successes and highlighting this "Virtual Birthday Party" would expand the search and draw in more party-goers!
I was just thinking if I MAIL a birthday card to anyone on this list on their birthday - as long as I get it in the mailstream in the morning, they will have a cover with a good recent commemorative and a birthday cancel!! It might not be from their birth YEAR, but still fun. Hmmm this could be a very, very fun year!
Are all the Volunteer Committee on the list?
Any cancel or cover 8-26-1959 is my birthday. I will have to print out the list and keep an eye out for others.
Relatively new member, first post. I hope I do it right.
I have many SON in my modest collection, hope I can help fill a wish or two.
Thanks for a great site.
I have found a number of near misses, but did find the following match:
15 April, 1965 for DavidG (but not North Bay).
If interested, contact me.
I have several January first covers but this one is my actual birth day. I believe credit goes to David Giles for this one !
All the articles about avoiding identity theft warn against posting one's birth date online.
Just wanted to bump this up so our newer members can enter their birthdates (if they so desire).
I received a letter from the APS earlier this week. I don't normally keep cancels, but it was posted on my birthday this year.
Mine would be November 20, 1971. Would love to see Toms River or Lakehurst New Jersey! Great idea Peter!
"I received a letter from the APS earlier this week. I don't normally keep cancels, but it was posted on my birthday this year."
Simothecat:
Message posted to you!
David
"did maybe Connie remember your BD"
Mine would be Sept 16, 1958, any place in the world, but Jersey City, NJ would be a direct hit.
Funny comment about the average stamp collector being 70 to dead.. it's the same in all the traditional hobbies. I'm very involved in the model car community, and we have the same situation... guy asks, "How will I recognize you at the show?" Reply, "I'm the fat bald guy with a gray mustache." "Hey! That describes 80% of the guys there!"
Ben Franklin:
I will turn 50 in April. Do I now join the ranks of the old guys in the hobby?
I remember when I was one of the young guys!
Time marches on!
Cheers!
David
Dave, I just turned 60. I think I qualify more than you. In terms of philately, you're just a puppy.
Yes David we all remember when we were the young guy!
Reminds me of my grandfather... at 88 he told me, "It all went so fast. Last I knew I was 18!" Makes ya think!
refresh thread
So, Charlie Jensen, you will know exactly where you were on your 24th birthday - as I do on my 16th...
But since I was born on a Saturday, I wonder if there will be any cancels on that date and year. Indeed this entire thread may debar two-sevenths of the membership from contributing!
I'd never considered which days could have no cancels, or whether it is the same in every country. Does anyone know?
(The apparently private comment above refers, of course, to events in Dallas on that day.)
In Algeria
since the independence 1962 till 1976 the week end was Saturday Sunday
1976 till 2009 : Thursday Friday post offices work on Thursdays
2009 till today : Friday Saturday : posts work on Saturdays
it denpends on the year of birth............
One more for the project:
September 11, 1939 - Washington, D.C.
Regretfully, it's far too easy to remember my birthday now.
I've got a bunch of 1930's - 1940's covers stashed away. I'll get those out and see if I can help out any members like me who fall into the 'slightly younger than dirt' category.
Tom:
If it is any consolation... September 11, 1939 was the day after Canada declared war on Germany (September 10, 1939).
David
" .... But since I was born on a Saturday, I wonder if there will be any cancels on that date and year. Indeed this entire thread may debar two-sevenths of the membership from contributing! ..."
Different countries different work weeks, plus often mail is processed at sorting and forwarding facilities despite, weekends, holidays and even national disasters.
" ..... you will know exactly where you were on your 24th birthday - as I do on my 16th... ....."
Yes and several of us discussed that date in a thread in 2012,the 49th anniversary of the assassination.
I posted:
"... Nov. 22, 1963
I had just left the US Coast Guard and was waiting for some papers so I could start sailing on Merchant Ships. I took a job at what was then the brand new Macy's Bay Shore Store, near home on Long Island so I didn't have to draw down on savings while the bureaucracy worked its magic.
I was leaving the store's cafeteria/lunchroom that was on the second floor to go down to the first floor where I was in charge of dealing with the truckers delivering merchandise, but I had jumped into the freight elevator on the "up" ride along with some other workers.
The third floor held the packing, shipping and price marking department and a half dozen or so young girls worked there, which was one of the benefits of a job at Macy's, but they were all in tears. The news had just come over the radio, so I hung out there for a while before resuming my elevator ride down to the first floor.
Within a minute or two of arriving at my desk the phone rang.
My mother who was a staunch McCarthyite Republican and still thought Tail Gunner Joe should have been canonized by the Pope, said "Hello" and then "Did you take your rifle to work today ?
What people today forget, or perhaps are not aware of, is that, to a significant proportion of the country, John Kennedy was just as hated and reviled, fairly or unfairly, much as there are certain groups who express chillingly similar unfair and inappropriate remarks about our recent elected Presidents these days.
Within an hour or so, the management began to close the store, so I buttoned up my department and went back to the third floor to commiserate with the local talent and wound up driving two who had no rides home to their apartments.
But even to this day, I remember my mom's voice and her words with their callous meaning as if it were yesterday. ..."
Good Idea on the Birthdays. How about joining this old thread with the new one created by perrfin2. It would still be nice to have a cover postmarked with your birthdate.
Mel
Hey Mel, I didn't see your birthday here. Post it so I have something else to look for in THE HOARD!
Dave,
Go up to the post on July 1, 2014. Forth from top on list.
Mel
Geez Mel, that was too much like work finding that! Have you found many (any?) postmarked New Year's Day?
Which countries (if any) would not consider that a holiday and have postal service that would cancel letters? Might help narrow down my search.
Dave.
O.K.heres my legacy 01/01/39 !
January 1 is actually pretty easy to find. It's New Years Day, so go to the postcard category on eBay and search the postcards / holiday section for "New Years" shouldn't take you more than a few minutes to find one.
Here's two more... first cover is what I call a Year Span Cover. The handwritten carrier cancel is Dec 31, 1906 and the receiving cancel is Jan 1, 1907.
Second cover is Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Fun stuff!
"January 1 is actually pretty easy to find...go to the postcard category on eBay"
Darn,
Dave, I thought I had you convinced to do my bidding. Now I have to start all over again.
I have no problem finding January 1 post marks, but like philb, Looking for one that has complete date of Jan 1, 1942.
Will keep searching.
Mel
I had been thinking about an Olympic cover dated 30 Nov 1956. I see there are a few on eBay but the cancels are not clear.
It would be great if the updated list were reposted.
I will look through our covers for the dates mentioned.
Hope it's not asking too much, but could the list be sorted by day-of-year. I started to write down dates from various previous lists but with them being in random order with many dozens of cancels available it has been so time consuming that I've temporarily given up trying to match them.
Would still like to do this though - I've set aside a couple for members I don't know with the intent of contacting them later - trying moreso to pin down previous buyers or folks who've participated in my posts. Oddly, just looked through about 50 and only found 1 match - what's the chance of that???
Dave.
Sorted both by month and by year would be great!
OK, I've retyped all the birthdays in Excel, sorted by year, and added all those since the last post of the list.
Please check that I have typed your details correctly.
PM me if you want the spreadsheet version.
I'll resort it by month and repost at a later time.
Hey Sheryll, you are awesome - thanks!
By month/day is perfect I find for the initial search; with year a "bonus" and city-cancel a "triple-bonus". So far my hit ratio is about 4 successes for 100+ cancels examined. It's kind of fun to have something like that to look for and add as a "treat" for buyers or to just send to folks you've gotten to know here.
If you haven't seen it already, look for my post where I found a very cool American history January 1 cancel on cover for my philanthropic buddy Mel Bohannon. I was actually thrilled to come across it and to be able to give it to him!
Cheers, Dave,
Hey Dave, I didn't see your birthday here. Post it so I have something else to look for!!
Mel
Well, since it's not up there yet, you may as well put down January, 28 1949.
Since you asked Mel. Good luck finding one...
30 Cheshvan 5717 with a Budapest, Hungary cancel would be great.
Thanks, Dave
No worries, Dave!
Pencilling your birthday on my printed copy of the list.
I found a 17 July 19 1929 First Flight cover, if trabz is interested. It belongs to my husband's accumulation so would be a less than $5 purchase if interested.
On another post some members talked about looking for their birthday on covers, either as first day issue dates or other cancels. Okay, so here's your chance to post your birthday in case someone finds something for you. Say whether you're interested in first day issue cancellations, or any postal cancellation. Please message members if you have what they are seeking. Of course, it's up to the owner whether it is offered for free, for trade, put up for auction, etc.
I'll start:
September 13, 1955
Interested in either FDI or postal cancel.
Peter
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
For me:
February 13, 1955
I was born in Germany, so would like to get a cover from Germany for the birthdate. Cancel from the city of Morbach would make it perfect.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
July 6, 1951
I'd rather FDC, but postal cancel would be considered. Oh what the hey, if it were on an animal that would be terrific.

Cocollectibles: Sept 13, 1955; any cancel

Michael, why Morbach?
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
March 1, 1948 (Austin, TX cancel if at all possible)

I'd take, on cover or on a stamp:

North Bay, Ont. Canada

re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
For years I have looked for any stamps cancelled on November 22nd, (cdj1122) and found a few but the prize would be November 22nd, 1939, on a cover that went through the mail that day. The perfect prize would cancelled in Brooklyn, New York with a recently issued NY World's Fair stamp. But so far if such a momento ever crossed my path, I was oblivious to it that day.

Thanks,
Bob
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Bob, I've added you to the list for June 26 FDC.
BTW, not to be pedantic, but (and you knew that was coming) ... it's tilde and for those who don't know, it looks like this.
Pedantically yours,
Peter
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Thanks Coco!!!
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
To type a tilde, type an ampersand (&) followed by #126, (if I actually type it, it will produce a tilde) - so, pretending $ = &, type $#126 wherever you want a ~.
According to the standard ASCII set for HTML (Latin characters), this code is supposed to end with a semi-colon, but on this board it will work either way. To see a complete list of Codes, CLICK HERE.
BTW, if you preview or edit your message, you will have to re-enter that code each time as it only works with the initial publication.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Thanks Bobby,
It works in the non-hyperlink where you have to copy and paste but not in the hyperlink.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Sorry. I didn't realize you were talking about hyperlinks - whole 'nother kettle o' fish! Although the tilde is an unreserved character and should work without special coding (called percent-encoding), you can use the code %7e to enter a tilde in a URL.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
I suppose it has nothing to do with dancing or Waltzing Ma Tilda

Mine would be July 31, 1973 any cancel would be fine.

re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Here is the list in a different format: Sorted by birth year, then month, then day to make it easier to find cancels with that date. Again, if you have any changes, or additions, let me know.
Cheers,

What a great idea.
Mine is July 5 1957
Any country, any city will be good.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
I agree, an excellent idea. My birthdate is April 7th 1956. An Australian cover with this date would be great.

And all this time I heard the average age of a stamp collector is 70 years old.

Darn! you got me. Actually, John & I went fishing. As you can see from the picture the person sitting
next to Jesus is Mary Magdalene not John.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
my 2 sons told their Sunday School teacher that I was good friends with Noah and helped build the Ark, so I guess I must be older than you Carl
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Actually, I have been told by ?good? friends that the average age of stamp collectors is dead.
My birthday is August 2, 1942 and I would also be happy with any country any city but would love Peoria, Illinois
Jack
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
We've had quite a few new additions so here is the list, earlier than usual.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Looks like I get to bring down the average age just a smidge.
March 14, 1969
Not that I am particularly keen on covers from my date of birth, though now I will have to look for one sent by Seattle General Hospital on that day. Would be interested in any covers from Seattle on that date.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
April 10, 1973 - a Guelph, Ontario, Canada postmark or an fdc from Canada, Germany, DDR or USSR.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Here is the latest list.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Hey Peter, I didn't know you were born on the 13th too. Wasn't Doug also born on the 13th? No wonder the three of us are so crazy.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Yes, it explains a lot!
I turned 13 on Friday the 13th. My superstitious mother avoided me all day. Too bad I didn't have a black cat back then.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
I should clarify - Guelph, Ontario for an fdc or a Canadian cover. OR a German or USSR cancelled in April 10, 1973.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Changed on the master list.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
" .... And all this time I heard the average age of a stamp collector is 70 years old....."
Actually, I've looked at such columns of numbers several times over the years in different clubs and an average (mean) in the mid-fifties is about right
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
No updates since the last one, as below.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Hey guys I just got a bunch of covers given to me. I don't collect covers myself and so will take a look. If I find any matching the above "wishlist" I will let the person know and hopefully we will be able to trade!
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Well, what a great idea!
My date is Sept. 4, 1944 so any FDC or other cancel from Canada or UK would be super.
Now to look at my stash to match up with any on the list(oops, I just took the average age up a couple of notches)!!
...SOR is never short on new ideas.

What a great idea! July 11th, 1943. If anyone happens to have one from Yakima, Wa. I would pay handsomely for it! Thanks, Theron.

Theron has been added.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
I have sorted through those covers I received and here are the dates I have, none of them are on the current list so that is why I am posting them.
If I have a date you were looking for I can send you an image of it so you can decide. I would like to trade them for used Canadian stamps.

re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers

Priceless response Peter! You gave me a much needed smile. ♥

re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
I would like to find any April 29 cancels on cover, postcards or on stamps. One from Wichita Falls Texas on April 29, 1971 would be the ultimate, my actual birthday and birthplace.
Any chance I could get the master list in excel format? I will keep my eye out for other member's requested dates.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
I just learned this list exists!! Thanks, Bobby, for directing me to this. How very fun! The group is much younger than I thought - so many of us are baby boomers. I'm 7 11 57. All odd and it fits LOL. I would LOVE a cover or stamp with the date - anything. I'll have to print out the list and keep an eye out for those.
Cheers!
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
I'm glad this showed up in my last 30 days. I'll take a cancel from May 25, 1970.
Thanks

Best of all, it provides me a ready excuse for my natine curmudgeonly behavior.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Since I joined SOR after this thread started, I'm glad it showed up in my "Last 30 By Time." Great idea! I'd like to add: June 3, 1959. SON cancel, cover, or anything. A Champaign-Urbana Illinois, Chanute AFB, or Rantoul postmark would almost hit the delivery room.
Next question is, How many have we found? Any? Would it be possible to: 1) keep track of and display successful matches, and 2) each week highlight one search on the SOR front page or a link to it from the front page? If not that, maybe a link under "Member Activities"? Showing successes and highlighting this "Virtual Birthday Party" would expand the search and draw in more party-goers!
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
I was just thinking if I MAIL a birthday card to anyone on this list on their birthday - as long as I get it in the mailstream in the morning, they will have a cover with a good recent commemorative and a birthday cancel!! It might not be from their birth YEAR, but still fun. Hmmm this could be a very, very fun year!
Are all the Volunteer Committee on the list?
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Any cancel or cover 8-26-1959 is my birthday. I will have to print out the list and keep an eye out for others.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Relatively new member, first post. I hope I do it right.
I have many SON in my modest collection, hope I can help fill a wish or two.
Thanks for a great site.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
I have found a number of near misses, but did find the following match:
15 April, 1965 for DavidG (but not North Bay).
If interested, contact me.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
I have several January first covers but this one is my actual birth day. I believe credit goes to David Giles for this one !

Just wanted to bump this up so our newer members can enter their birthdates (if they so desire).
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
I received a letter from the APS earlier this week. I don't normally keep cancels, but it was posted on my birthday this year.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Mine would be November 20, 1971. Would love to see Toms River or Lakehurst New Jersey! Great idea Peter!

Dave, I just turned 60. I think I qualify more than you. In terms of philately, you're just a puppy.

Yes David we all remember when we were the young guy!
Reminds me of my grandfather... at 88 he told me, "It all went so fast. Last I knew I was 18!" Makes ya think!

re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
So, Charlie Jensen, you will know exactly where you were on your 24th birthday - as I do on my 16th...
But since I was born on a Saturday, I wonder if there will be any cancels on that date and year. Indeed this entire thread may debar two-sevenths of the membership from contributing!
I'd never considered which days could have no cancels, or whether it is the same in every country. Does anyone know?
(The apparently private comment above refers, of course, to events in Dallas on that day.)
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
In Algeria
since the independence 1962 till 1976 the week end was Saturday Sunday
1976 till 2009 : Thursday Friday post offices work on Thursdays
2009 till today : Friday Saturday : posts work on Saturdays
it denpends on the year of birth............
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
One more for the project:
September 11, 1939 - Washington, D.C.
Regretfully, it's far too easy to remember my birthday now.
I've got a bunch of 1930's - 1940's covers stashed away. I'll get those out and see if I can help out any members like me who fall into the 'slightly younger than dirt' category.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Tom:
If it is any consolation... September 11, 1939 was the day after Canada declared war on Germany (September 10, 1939).

Different countries different work weeks, plus often mail is processed at sorting and forwarding facilities despite, weekends, holidays and even national disasters.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
" ..... you will know exactly where you were on your 24th birthday - as I do on my 16th...

Mel
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Geez Mel, that was too much like work finding that! Have you found many (any?) postmarked New Year's Day?
Which countries (if any) would not consider that a holiday and have postal service that would cancel letters? Might help narrow down my search.
Dave.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
O.K.heres my legacy 01/01/39 !
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
January 1 is actually pretty easy to find. It's New Years Day, so go to the postcard category on eBay and search the postcards / holiday section for "New Years" shouldn't take you more than a few minutes to find one.
Here's two more... first cover is what I call a Year Span Cover. The handwritten carrier cancel is Dec 31, 1906 and the receiving cancel is Jan 1, 1907.
Second cover is Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Fun stuff!
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
"January 1 is actually pretty easy to find...go to the postcard category on eBay"
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Darn,
Dave, I thought I had you convinced to do my bidding. Now I have to start all over again.
I have no problem finding January 1 post marks, but like philb, Looking for one that has complete date of Jan 1, 1942.
Will keep searching.
Mel
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
I had been thinking about an Olympic cover dated 30 Nov 1956. I see there are a few on eBay but the cancels are not clear.
It would be great if the updated list were reposted.
I will look through our covers for the dates mentioned.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Hope it's not asking too much, but could the list be sorted by day-of-year. I started to write down dates from various previous lists but with them being in random order with many dozens of cancels available it has been so time consuming that I've temporarily given up trying to match them.
Would still like to do this though - I've set aside a couple for members I don't know with the intent of contacting them later - trying moreso to pin down previous buyers or folks who've participated in my posts. Oddly, just looked through about 50 and only found 1 match - what's the chance of that???
Dave.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Sorted both by month and by year would be great!
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
OK, I've retyped all the birthdays in Excel, sorted by year, and added all those since the last post of the list.
Please check that I have typed your details correctly.
PM me if you want the spreadsheet version.
I'll resort it by month and repost at a later time.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers

Mel
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Well, since it's not up there yet, you may as well put down January, 28 1949.
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
Since you asked Mel. Good luck finding one...
30 Cheshvan 5717 with a Budapest, Hungary cancel would be great.
Thanks, Dave
re: Member's birthday on cancels/covers
No worries, Dave!
Pencilling your birthday on my printed copy of the list.
I found a 17 July 19 1929 First Flight cover, if trabz is interested. It belongs to my husband's accumulation so would be a less than $5 purchase if interested.
