Depending on the country, self adhesive gums may take a lot longer like half a lifetime.
I use rubbing alcohol to soak most self stickys and even then there is often some stick-um on the back side. Placing them between paper to dry will attach some of them to the drying sheet just as firmly as they were attached to an envelope.
I just found this toooooo funny not to comment on it!
We talk about the future of philately being a different species than that we know today (or yesterday); this may be another example, where self adhesive stamps means we will no longer soak them off but keep them in nicely trimmed pieces.

Michael,
It's all relaxing and fun until my wife finds out what I for some of my gems.
Early on in our relationship, I told my wife that I collect stamps and I am a model railroader. She asked me how much do the hobbies cost. I told her that some items are cheap, and some aren't. I also told her that the checkbook and bank statements are in the filing cabinet if she ever wanted to see what I was spending on the hobbies. In 31 years of marriage, she has never looked, and she has never asked me how much I spend.
Lucky man Michael....
I have to argue every purchase.... I don't know why.... I end every argument with "and what did you buy today".....
I pay big money but my stuff is worth big $$$$$$..... I can't see why she buys old glass for mega when I can get a set of glasses at the Salvation Army for about a dollar. She tells me how great of a deal/steal she got on a painting when I have grandkids that produce the same effect hanging on my refrigerator, uhg
Just was looking for some rates on the USPS Website and I happend to find the following. It answers the age old question as to how to remove self-adhesive stamps. At least according to the USPS!
Note-I added the Bold for effect.
How do I remove stamps from an envelope?
Soaking is the best way to remove stamps from envelopes. Tear the envelope around the stamp, leaving a small margin. With the stamp facing down, place into a pan of warm, but not hot, water. After a few minutes (self-adhesive gum may take longer), the stamp should sink to the bottom. When all adhesive is dislodged, remove the stamp preferably using stamp tongs. Place the stamp between two paper towels and put a heavy object, such as a book, on top to keep the stamp from curling as it dries. Leave overnight."

I guess none of us left them in long enough! Or are they all just defective?
