Brookman won't be as thorough as Scott, plus there is a variance in valuations where Brookman runs higher than Scott.
Just remember that you usually get what you pay for! It depends on what you want to get out of a catalog. To what depth does each catalog go, for the information you require for your stamps? If the book does not give you what you need, then it is certainly not a bargain or even beneficial to the task, no matter the price.

Both good points. I don't know Brookman so any comparative information would be helpful; I had an earlier Scott Specialized on CD but it no longer loads.
My main interests are to get more contemporary values and information to identify some revenues that are not in the regular Scott (see related post), the numismatic cards (again, discussed on another post), US FDCs in general (I have a 2007 Mellone), and any more detailed information that Brookman may provide over Scott regarding the QV Canadian and Provincial issues.
Given that, Scott or Brookman?
Personally I am not familiar with Brookman, having only looked at a copy several years ago, so can not make a comparison with them. As far as values, unless you are valuing a collection for insurance purposes, book values are basically out of date when books are issued. Plus you must add in the fact that items are only worth what someone else is willing to pay for them, be it stamps, coins, left-handed monkey wrenches or whatever you have to sell.
Mike
Peter,
I don't have a recent Brookman, but...
For revenues, numismatic cards, and FDCs, you are better off using Scott. My opinion.
Remember, Brookman is primarily a price-list with little details. In fact, if you are only interested in prices, their pricelist is available to download for free. {if this is in violation of SOR posting policy, just delete and note here, and I will email Peter directly}
Regarding Canada, it is my opinion that your money is better spent getting Unitrade instead of Brookman.

Okay, thanks; that's exactly what I need to know. I'll contribute the $35 toward a Scott Specialized.
Cheers,
Peter
The Unitrade for Canada will run you roughly the same amount.
I would like to get a Scott US Specialized catalogue but I see that the Brookman is less expensive and seems to cover what that Scott does. Is there anything I'll be missing or gaining by buying the Brookman over Scott? I already have a recent set of the regular Scotts so I'm looking for postal stationery, those numismatic cards, etc.
Thanks.
Peter
