How do you figure out what the "cv" for a maxi card or FDC would be? I'd assume it would be more than just the stamp(s) itself. What about Colorado Silk Cachet?

I could really use any advice on this so that I can get some things put together.

Thanks in advance.

re: Maxi Cards and FDCs - how to price them

For US FDC, I use Mellone's "US First Day Cover Catalogue and Checklist" that lists items by Scott stamp catalogue number. It also has a section that describes valuation increases for certain cachets. Generally, most unused modern US FDC are about $1 to $2 in this catalogue. There are columns too for blocks, plate blocks, and ceremony programs. Partially illustrated.

In Mellone, Colorano Silk Cachets are 1971-1973 15x to 20x, 1974-1976 4x to 5x, and 1977 to present 3x to 4x the listed catalogue value.

For GB FDC, I use The Booth Catalogue "Collect GB First Day Covers" that does NOT list by Gibbons catalogue number, but their own. Includes Queen Victoria to contemporary listings, with a value for a standard first day of issue cancel, and valuations for other special cancels.

Both are great resources and I recommend them, although both are a bit dated now (2007 for both).

I believe Maxi cards may be listed in some Gibbons catalogues; they are in the Stoneham Catalogue of GB stamps. I highly recommend this for GB issues in general, as it is very comprehensive; they include PHQ cards, souvenir books, FDC, etc. in their listings.

If you only have a handful to look up, I'll be happy to help you out if you email me the Scott number for the stamp.

re: Maxi Cards and FDCs - how to price them

The best way to price maxicards/maximum cards/maxi cards is to ask experienced sellers and collectors of maxicards.
By simply listing them in the marketplace you might not get an accurate idea, since anything can happen, as a random event, either by underbidding or overbidding.
You might get an exception, either way.

My North American opossum maxicard, with my Zazzle personalized stamp (post office postmark ink was too watery...).
