I wonder if this was opened and resealed by Customs.
I thought that also at first, but why the absence of original postage stamps and if this was transferred from the original mailer, why no accompanying customs auxiliary stampings or seals that would notify the postal officials that no postage was due? Anything is possible though...

What a priceless cover!
I've seen this before while delivering mail....cover was torn badly and replaced, retaped, and then sent forward. Should have had a stamp by post office that it was resealed.
is that cancel beneath the tape?
Yes,David, the cancel or what appears to be a cancel is beneath the tape. Thanks to technology, I emailed the seller, attaching an image of the envelope, and the seller told me, "No, that was not the envelope I sent but it is the print out I had attached for the address to the original envelope."
No body bag either. If the original envelope was damaged it must have been a doozie of an accident however the three covers that were inside were completely intact and as shown by the seller.

Yes it sounds like a postally repacked letter
I received this letter thursday the 2nd, postmarked on the 1st. That all seems ok except the stamp wasn´t issued untill January 2nd
Just thought I'd share this with you. About a month ago, I bought some covers from someone living in Greece. They arrived, today. No stamps on the cover! No postal label! There is what appears to be a faint shape resembling a CDS but that is beneath the clear tape. It may or may not have any bearing here. This might qualify as the first amazing delivery, for me anyway, of 2014.
Anyone care to share unusual stamp or cover arrival/delivery stories?
Bruce
PS: Oh, and no postage due charge.
