Hello.

I have been collecting stamps for the past 34 years. I started collecting seriously when I turned 13. I have been ill so have not been keeping up with my collection. I am renewing my interest in stamp collecting. I collect world wide stamps specializing in both US/UN stamps. In the past I have considered not collecting world stamps, however, I enjoy collecting the world so much that I believe this would be a mistake. For medical reasons, I cannot travel so stamp collecting is the next best thing to traveling. My goal is to have at least one stamps from every stamps issuing county, including the countries that no longer exist.

I have a Harris Liberty US/UN stamps album. I am not sure how to mount mint self adhesive stamps. The backing of the stamps is very heavy plus there is writing on the back explaining the issue in some instances. In the past, I mounted mint US stamps in Showguard black mounts and then uses one or more hinges, depending on the size of the stamp, on the Showguard mount. I do not believe this will work with the self adhesive stamps because of their heaviness. I am considering putting the mint self adhesive US stamps in a stock book. How would your recommend I mount mint US stamps in the Liberty US/UN stamps album? Also, is there a stock page that will fit and work well with the Harris Liberty US/UN stamp album?

I have found that I can get year sets of US mint self adhesive stamps from eBay. I would prefer to get single cancelled stamps, however, this will be impossible for the souvenir sheets. Can you recommend where I can purchase US cancelled year sets?

Finally, I have read that some of the early US self adhesive cancelled stamps did not soak well. I have had family and friends save cancelled stamps. Please describe how to soak early and current cancelled self adhesive US stamps and also world wide self adhesive stamps? Also, do most countries use only self adhesive stamps?

Thank you,

David

The link below is to the American Philatelic Society web site.

http://stamps.org/Tips-and-Links

The second topic on the page is the answer to your question. How do I remove self-adhesive stamps from envelopes? - Through the 1990s, with the increasing numbers of self-adhesive stamps being issued came an increase in the dissatisfaction of collectors who couldn't find acceptable ways of successfully removing them from paper. Watch a video or read an article on how one APS member solved the problem.
