Phil:
A beautiful stamp, and a wonderful definitive series.
A few tidbits:
The name of that aboriginal is Hollow Horn Bear. He was from the Lakota Tribe, from Nebraska.
The typeface used on the 1922 Fourth Bureau Issue is called "Banknote Times"... to me, the All-American typeface! I love it.

This was the first 14-cent stamp issued by the U.S. post office. Clair Aubrey Huston designed the stamp who, drawing his inspiration from De Lancey Gill's photograph of Hollow Horn Bear (1850–1913), a Brule Sioux. The photograph was taken in March 1905 when Hollow Horn Bear was in Washington, D.C. for the inauguration of Theodore Roosevelt. The Smithsonian Institution is now the owner of the photo. The die which produced the image of Hollow Horn Bear was engraved by Louis Schofield.
Phil:
I found another Indian (precanceled) at the stamp club last night.
It is in your trade pile.
How many do you have, now?
David
Hi David, Charlie sent me 4, i think thats 82 ..83 with yours !!
This is probably my favorite U.S. Stamp(the design i know theres more than one). Who knows why we favor a particular stamp ? I probably do not give much more thought to American indians than i do Ukranians or Koreans. My tribe has grown to 78..David Giles sends me new applicants when he sees them !! I would love to have one on cover..but that would not be inexpensive !
