I think we will have to wait for a few more clues, or can we ask questions in order to narrow it down?
Jan-Simon, I would have expected a guess out of you or Jill, right off the bat, but yes ask any question you have.
Since it has been about 8 hours maybe I should pop in another clue.
There, that should just about give it away!!!! NOT.
Mike
Absolutely, that makes it a lot easier: "Image Not Found" - I guess something went wrong during upload?
Well, maybe that's the clue. Nope, sorry but it's not. Will try that again....How about clues one and two together? Is that more better????
This is not good at all. Over 12 hours and not a single guess. What is happening out there, everyone sleeping or what? Let's try another clue and see what happens.
There, now isn't that mucho grande better?
Good luck!
Clue 4:
Oh yeah, that cleared it right up.
Is it a stamp from French Polynesia or another French colony?
Sorry Jan-Simon, but you're not even close! But I think I remember seeing a French restaurant there on one of our cruises. OOOPPPPSSS, I just gave away another big clue. This country is accessible to cruise ships. Hope that helps!
Mike
so now I need to find out where you went on a cruise. Probably the Caribbean, that would narrow it down considerably.
Don't forget we did Europe just a year ago. Sorry, hope that didn't pop any bubbles. LOL
Mike
no worries, at least I can now cross off all countries bordering the Indian Ocean and the Pacific
AAAH yes, we did transit the Panama Canal, maybe that wouldn't change anything. Who knows?
Oh boy... I already checked Panama, but could not find anything. Perhaps I'd better do another check.
I'll be sad if you do find it. i just failed in the Panama catalogue.
Merv
Pssst, just for you Jan-Simon, it is not Panama, but don't tell anyone. It seems that with over 200 hits on this posting someone else would have made a guess by now.
I think this stamp would be a good stamp to be the 1st to "March" to.
Mike
Merv, you slipped in there when I wasn't looking, so go ahead and peek at the clue I just gave Jan-Simon, but don't let him know.
Mike
While everyone is looking in Panama I'll sneak in another clue.
Wow, I think one would have to be very wise to guess the correct answer with that clue!
"I think this stamp would be a good stamp to be the 1st to "March" to."
You are right Jan-Simon, it's impossible for this stamp to be US 880 since 880 is a Red stamp, and there are no musical instruments. You will have to "Wise" up if you want to fly away with this beauty. I would say something about uranus, but some may be offended if that were said.
Oh well, here is another clue before I hit the rack to get my beauty sleep.
night, night y'all
Mike
Cawabunga Batman, this must really be a tough one to identify, with over 300 hits on the posting and only one semi-guess. It must be time for another clue, since it has been over 12 hours since that last body of a clue. Hoo knows, maybe the caligo will disappear and some lucky person will fly, on gossamer wings, over and type in the dollar answer.
Mike
Possibly Scott 357 Belize $1
caligo uranus butterfly
Merv
Good job Merv, you hit the nail on the head. I was kind of leery about that uranus part, but figured it would all come out in the wash. I will have your stamp in tomorrow's outgoing mail, if my computer can manage to type all of those names.
Thanks to everyone that played and here is what the stamp looks like.
Mike
Thanks, Mike. i had better change the Scott number to 944, before someone complains.
Merv
Congratulations Merv!
Good detective work, although in hindsight the last clues are very revealing
Thanks Jansimon,
Yes the final clue was very helpful. What made it even worse was that i had seen that stamp when I was searching for owls (the 'wise' clue) and didn't make the connection, it was only when I started looking for moths and butterflies ('gossamer wings')that I made the link. I looked at so many space stamps because of the Uranus clue, I only hope Mike got you as well with that one. http://stamporama.com/images/ei_happy.gif
Thanks Mike for a great contest. please don't leave it for a year again. Jansimon and I have our Catalogues poised for the next one.
Merv
Hi Mike,
Stamp safely received this morning and in album 5 minutes later. Thanks, it's a beauty.
Merv
Merv,
Glad the stamp arrived in good condition and you do like it. That really was a tough quiz and I can't believe how long it took to even get the first guess. I actually went into my files and generated more clues because I figured they were going to be necessary.
There may just be another MSQ in the near future!
Mike
Yupper, it's another World Famous Mystery Stamp Quiz
We haven't had one for almost a year, so it's time for another, to agitate, irritate and otherwise perturb those that read this message.
First, for the benefit of all of the new members that have joined after the last MSQ, here are the rules.
#1 - There are no rules. The first person to correctly identify the Mystery Stamp will win that stamp, period. Everyone is eligible to guess.
As a first clue, this is not a twenty-five cent stamp, so that eliminates 90% of the catalog.
Good luck!
