The Stamp Collector by David Benedictus (shown in that very good link) is an excellent read.
I was lucky enough to have met him during London 2010 (A Festival of Stamps) when I visited his stall at the Charing Cross Collectors Market in London. His stamp table was the most amazing mess I have ever seen and a friend and I picked up some great bargains.

I have some pics of the mess but they are sadly too big !
I just sent away for a book that looks like it will be good. It's not fiction, but it is a novel written about stamp collecting. If anyone else is interested after reading about it, check out the site book depository. I just heard about the site Friday night. Not all stamp books, but there are a lot, and a lot of catalogues. Some say unavailable right now though. And the good thing is that they ship FREE almost anywhere in the world. There is a list of countries to where they ship.
Well I will let you read this now.
The Error World: An Affair with Stamps
From the author of Mauve, an obsessively readable memoir that brings the mania for stamp collecting to life From the Penny Red to the Blue Mauritius, generations of collectors have been drawn to the mystique of rare stamps.Once a widespread pastime of schoolboys, philately has increasingly become the province of older men obsessed with the shrewd investment, the once-in-a-lifetime find, the one elusive beauty that will complete a collection and satisfy an unquenchable thirst. As a boy, Simon Garfield collected errors?rare pigment misprints that create ghostly absences in certain stamps. When this passion reignited in his mid-forties, it consumed him. In the span of a couple of years he amassed a collection of errors worth upwards of forty thousand pounds, pursuing not only this secret passion, but a romantic one as his marriage disintegrated. In this unique memoir, Simon Garfield twines the story of his philatelic obsession with an honest and engrossing exploration of the rarities and absences that both limit and define us.The end result is a thoughtful, funny, and enticing meditation on the impulse to possess.
Good afternoon all,
A few years ago I remember seeing a list of Novels that had a Philatelic theme. I know I saw it in the APRL quarterly publication but I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone else have a copy or a list of Philatelic Themed Novels.
Many thanks,
Alyn
