Fantasy stamps are stamps issued in the name of a country which simply doesn't exist at all (as opposed to political stamps issued by independence groups in the name of an area which is not recognised by the government).
In the early days of stamp collecting, when information about faraway countries was hard to come by, these were made to cheat collectors. This sometimes still happens, but now they are usually aimed at non-stamp memorabilia markets. For example a company might print stamps of different planets where Dr Who has landed and sell them to Dr Who fanatics - most of whom, at least, will recognise that they are not genuine!
They will be of interest to Cinderella collectors.
Thanks for your answer. I think I'll give away those I've got to my neighbour's kid. He'll be happy to have them!
Can you post a pic, Kiwi ? I would like to see what you are talking about.
And I thought a fantasy stamp was the US C3a I was looking for in my shoe boxes of used stamps.
Hi! Sorry Londonbus1! Didn't see your message. I'll try and post one as soon as I get my hands on them. They are somewhere in my flat but can't remember where I put them??? However I don't think they will interest you? It's a serie of dinosaure stamps.
Logistical1, what does the stamp you're talking about look like?
A clue: its an airplane flying upside down...
Well! This is no fantasy then!Having one of them is another type of "fantasy", but in my dreams!
Going through ebay (but not only), I came across a serie of "fantasy stamps". I would like to know who issues those stamps? Do they have any kind of value? What is your personnal opinion on those stamps? Are they considered as fakes? Many straightforward answers I couldn't find on the web. Thanks for your answers.
Daniel.
