Seems like theres less inter action between members here than on the other chat boards i have been on. On the other forum people were always inheriting their Grandmothers old stamp collection from the 1970s and wanting to know what it was worth..i don't miss that !!!

I can't say I miss the Granny's old stamps she inherited from the 1800s either. But as for interactions among he membership, Phil, , between the discussion board and the internal notes to and from members, as well as the auction listings, I spend almost as much time here as with living members of my family each day.

My Grandmother died & left me a Goat. It's a Billy Goat & it is white. It seems to be in good condition but is a bit tempermental. Any idea of it's value?

re: People asking "whats my collection worth?"

Hi Phil,

We have few members -- perhaps rather call them visitors -- that just drop in to ask about the value of an inherited or "found on the attic" stamp or collection, because we have a member verification process. This drives such requests to other website which are not set up as a club.

A currently somewhat lower level of participation on the DB is certainly due partly to this being summer. There are other reasons as well, but mostly I would think that inane and occasionally idiotic topics of discussion simply do not hold much interest to garner participation by the membership at large.

Arno

Sounds good, some people love to offer advice to those folks..our club is trying to dispose of a collection of a deceased member to do the best by his wife..and it seems to get more and more complicated !!

Phil, if the deceased member was also a member of the APS, his widow can contact the APS Estate Advisory Service for assistance. There is no charge for the service.

Thanks Michael, one third of our club are APS members,,this fellow was not...one option that was mentioned at our last meeting was to have an auction house come in and take the whole thing. Its a huge collection but one that is not organized..i saw a $460 Netherlands (c13-c14)in a stockbook along with low value stamps..who knows if the spouse would get a fair deal ?
