My name is Len, I'm in my mid-60's, and semi-retired. I have been collecting stamps off and on (mostly off) for 30 years or so. Although I collected worldwide for many of those years, I now collect British Empire to 1952 and US to 1940. I recently began a blog which you can find at http://lenturnerstamps.blogspot.com/. I've been lurking about the forum for a couple of weeks and have found it quite interesting. I look forward to participating.
Regards,
Len

Greetings Lin from the Pine Tree State (but originally from Austin, TX just 30 miles from the "Lost Pines" of Bastrop County). You'll enjoy it here as long as you like to chat with a bunch of stamp geeks, a few knowledgeable philatelists and an occasional cantankerous ol' curmudgeon (a-hem!). Big Grin

Welcome Len. I assume you are referring to East Tawas, Michigan ????? I spent all of my summer vacations there at the State Dock and Holiday weekends. Great place. I retired in late 1990's and moved to FL. Still near the water, but no longer boating. Stamps are another passion and is why I am here on SoR now. You will find a lot of mutual friends with same interests. - Dan

Len - What was your U.S. Navy experience ???? I am sure there are a lot vet's on SoR that might be interested. I served on the U.S.S. Hornet CVS-12 for two Viet-Nam tours-of-duty as a 1st Class Gunner's Mate. A real life changing experience, and as they say, got to see the world. Some of it more than I wanted to see, but memorable.

By the way, nice Blog site!!!!!!

welcome, loved the Hungarian inflation overprint and offset story. Great how you put thiings in context. Makes it feel so real and understandable.

re: Greetings from the Pineywoods of East Texas

Thank eveyone for the warm reception. Nice to be here. Happy

To answer a couple of questions and clear up a couple of things...

bobby1948 - East 6th. St., Antone's & The Continental Club... Cool

DSCStamps - I'm in Texas, not Michigan. About 120 miles north of Houston. US Navy service 1963-68 USS Mahan DLG-11 Fire Control Technician Terrier missiles.

DRYER - not sure what "lots of guile and low cunning" means, but I'll take it as a compliment. And although there is a "secessionist" movement in Texas, we no longer have a separate currency. Winking

amsd - the Hungarian overprint story was not mine, but in a blog, Global Philately, that I follow.

FYI - Folks in Texas do not say "Howdie Podnah!" That's just in the movies. Smug

Looks like this is gonna be fun. Big Grin

Len
