I actually did just last week here in SOR. I was on my cell phone and I think I must have touched the wrong auction - stupid touch phones - I thought I was bidding on a different item. When I got the invoice I was confused - went back to the auction itself and said damn, wrong one. Oh well, that's life.

I often bid on the same stamp! Some people are slow shippers, and after a while, I forget that I already won a stamp and I bid on another one.

I did that in my early buying days on eBay, when I bid on two identical items from the same seller, five days apart. I thought I was increasing my bid when I actually bid on a second item. I won both, realized my mistake, contacted the seller and was basically told "too bad." At least he combined shipping.

i guess its confession time...i will go to a stamp show and see an attractive stamp and purchase it. Then i return home and find i already have it..if i mention it to my wife she says "why don't you make a list?"

This happens to me far too often but is is not slow shippers. I like to let a tab run up to combine mailings and save on postage. I see some attractive stamp that I know I want and forget I already won a example that is enroute o stuck in among a long tabulation of won lots awaiting my payment. But that way I get to choose the best copy and least intrusive cancellation.
And sometimes I am relieved when some generous soul outbids me.

Yeah, sometimes an item "speaks to me" when I first see it, then, even if I still like it, I wonder "now what"... Like you saying you'll just find a place for Franco with the BoBs. Then there are the times I hope someone bids over me. Most auctions sites don't disappoint either! Some people bid as an ego trip, which can be a double edged sword.

Are the posters here talking about Cinderellas or has this topic just flown out of the window ??
If you are all talking about Cinderellas you have bid and wished you hadn't then at least give an inkling of what they are.....or the posts are meaningless.
Even if they are not USA Cinderellas, it doesn't matter. Just let the visitors know.

"Yes, with all the comments lately on discussions losing the way, please make sure you stay on course in what is the Cinderella section. Only the initial post is fitting to the category, and even then it initiates answers that are not"

I think the title to the topic opens it up to discussing bidding remorse on anything philatelic.
As a aside, I think we're starting to get a bit overly-sensitive about what's being posted and where. This is a great way to dissuade people from posting as they think that they will get publicly chastised for posting/saying something in the wrong spot. Bantering and digression occur during any conversation - talking and chatting. It's natural. I don't mind friendly reminders to try to stay on topic, but let's not let the small handful of criers (if that many) out of 2,000 members ruin things, because they don't want to read some postings. SOR isn't a specialist website where perfs on every stamp are counted, measured and made sure that they are all the same height.

OK, bowing to popular request, I renamed the thread. Now post anything you want about Cinderellas.
If you have a problem with "over sensitivity" on the part of those whose task it is to enforce the letter and the spirit of the discussion board rules, please feel free to petition the VC for a succinct and unambiguous translation of those rules or for removal of those persons whose "over sensitivity" offend you. Until such time, I will try my best to keep discussions on track.

You posted a picture of a Cinderella (At least I couldn't find it in the catalogues) and gave it a general topic title which led to others replying, not about the item, but about the topic title in general.
In truth, the topic should have gone in the general discussion section.
Now Bobby has changed your title to one about Cinderellas, when the discussion is not about Cinderellas at all !!

So now we need to change the title back to what it was originally and ask Bobby to put the whole package in the General discussion area ! 
Or, we can do what Michael78651 suggests in his post, and just let the discussions wander around (I have no problem with that] as they often seem to do, both on forums and in real life. But it must be the same for all.

Ok. Now capitalize the title, because Phil's keyboard apparently misses the shift keys, and move into the General Philatelic - Gen. Discussion area, and everybody is happy.
It appears Phil started with the Spanish local only as an illustration of an item where in hindsight he wondered why he had bought it.
@ Phil: I agree. Don't see a justification for buying the sheet either. Unless you collect Spain at that specialized level, I suppose.
I too, have bought stamps now and then that in hindsight I did not need or did not even like. I have gotten a little better -- albeit not perfect -- with years.
I believe the spin on your question is a little different from simply learning with years. Yes. I bought a lot of junk twenty years ago that I NOW wonder why.

I agree with Michael. One of the best things about these discussions in my mind is that they are free wheeling and, as open conversations between friends often do, they lead where ever the interest of the participants lie.
I also agree that it is a good idea to try to stay at least marginally on topic, but lately I seem to see a lot more concern with "topic discipline" and feel that it will restrain members, especially new members, from asking the question that comes to mind during the discussion.
There is another forum that rigorously enforces a strange set of rules that taken by themselves one at a time all seem like good ideas, but in that forum have become the tools of the topic and format police. A few times I have discussed that with some registered members who seldom bother any eto read the posts there and never bother to post there themselves.
So I suggest that we try to stay on topic as best possible but let's not make it a chore.
It's is a hobby, a fun hobby, not a literature class.
I'd leave the overt policing to situations where, completely out of the blue, with no tie in to previous commentary, someone pops up with something totally on another subject. That post can be gently, ever so gently, moved to its own topic, either an established topic, or a new one.

Along with Charlie, I, too, agree with michael78651.
Two members agreeing with Michael? That just has to constitute a club record and I recommend the venerated Stamporama Volunteer Committee commission one of our artist-members to prepare a bone fide Cinderella to commemorate this historic occurrence.

At least you don't (As I have caught myself doing) bid on a stamp, then realize that you already purchased that very stamp, and from the same seller of the stamp you're bidding on now. LOL

Mike i am a dinosaur from Stampoffers like Londonbus and yourself..remember we thought that our world would end with the millennium ? There were no THREADS on Stampoffers...if Sneeky or Lord Tyburn posted something..you could reply to it or ignore it..depending on your interest. Then the Good Lord invented threads..its difficult to teach an old dog new tricks!

There were forums around at the time of the Message boards on Stampoffers, just not so many as there are today.
I was on some of those forums and I found the message board at Stampoffers just for general chit-chat....like a live Chat room, except not live. Wensy has excatly the same board BECAUSE of Stampoffers, set up for those who wondered over when Stampoffers was sold up the swanny.
Being on a forum was much more interesting and enjoyable. And it still is today.
A live chat board can be lots of fun. But there are not so many around these days.
As Meostamps said, you are doing great.

Oh, I have a good one. Recently, I bid on a Liechtenstein lot from a dealer, won it, and the next month, I did the same thing from the SAME DEALER. (I usually take a while to enter my purchases into my inventory)
Oh well, I have an extra set to trade or sell at some point down the road.
