Tim, I think those are great changes!
One thing that really bothers me as a seller on several web sites is the buyer's address. Many people move and don't update their address. Makes it difficult to send out orders. I don't know if this is possible here, but it would sure be nice if there was a process to periodically (every 6 months?) send a request to members to review/update their member information, especially their addresses on both this site, and PayPal (if they have a PayPal account). Both addresses should match. PayPal requires sellers to ship to the buyer's PayPal address as part of the seller protection plan.
Hi Bob,
I obviously haven't got it quite right. I'll check it now and get back to you.
Regards ... Tim.
Sorry for the problem everyone. It is fixed now. Let me know if you see anything else that isn't working this morning.
Regards ... Tim.
Haha, my bids also but now it is fixed, Tim.
But it might be good very so often to do something similar and see how fast bidders and sellers respond with correct addresses o confirmation of the existing address.
Not to make things too complicated, but I'd suggest that if there were some way of applying a similar block to members who are inactive for six months or a year.
Or conversely exempting members who are constantly buying and selling without any difficulty.
I suspect that were someone to bid and not have provided a current address that old b reported petty quickly.
On the other, other hand, sellers are far less likely to not provide and update addresses since the payments would dry up pretty quickly.
Just thinking as I type.
Charlie, I like your modifications to my request, but how often do people think to look at their profile? So, maybe rather than send out a bunch of messages to people every six months, they could receive a system message when they log in telling them that it has been (6 months, 1 year, whatever is decided) since they last logged in, and request that they review their profile and update it with any changes. Could provide a link that they can click on and go directly to their profile.
(Tim, I hope I'm not causing you to have to ask for another pay raise!)
Who's "Bob"?
Michael#####, there was a post between yours and Tim's that has been moved or deleted. Tim was responding to Bob's post regarding a problem he encountered -- which Tim has since then fixed.
Oh...okay.
i'm not in favor of limiting people's access merely because they haven't been active; we have lots of those guys, some of whom pop up periodically from their perches where they've lurking.
I'm not saying limit their access. Just ask them to verify their profile information, especially their address. Access to the web site should not be hindered if they are members.
That is the idea, Michael. It would just cause someone who has moved, been moved or incarcerated to correct the info before proceeding. And if it didn't need any change, sobeit.
Hi! Tim! been meaning to ask about this. i changed my address in january but invoices are still printing my old address. ????. love the new smilies, BTW.
Carl,
I believe if you go under Sellers -> Invoicing Control, you can change that.
Thanks,
Bob
Thanks, Bob. that did the trick. was hesitant to mess around with those symbol thingees,
afraid I'd mess something up.
I have implemented a couple of small changes this morning that will strengthen Member's privacy and clean up some data.
1. The Member's Mailing Address must be a valid address. If you are going to participate in the Auction by either biding on Auction Lots or by posting Auction Lots for others to bid on, your mailing address must be valid so that the member on the other side of the deal can contact you. I have changed the new members application program and the Member's Profile Edit program so that this is enforced.
2. In support of point 1 above, I have added a check to the Auction Bidding program and the Auction Lot Posting program to ensure that the Mailing Address in the Members Profile is valid.
If you don't want the general membership to see your mailing address when they use the Search function in the Member's Area, there is a flag in your profile that you can set so that your Mailing Address isn't shared with other members. If you set this flag, the only time that Members would see your Mailing Address is when you have successfully won or sold an Auction Lot.
I have changed the default for the Share Mailing Address flag, set when a new member applies for membership, to be No (don't share the Mailing Address). The default was set to Yes. I think this decision should be left up to the member.
Please let me know if you have any problems due to these changes.
Regards ... Tim.
