Yes it does look good. Thanks to all involved in this endeavor and especially Tim for all of his time and effort involved in writing and uploading everything neccessary to implement all of the changes.

I concur with the kudos to all who put out the time and effort to make the changes.

And to add one more thing. The moderators ARE doing a good job moving stuff around. I accidentally posted something that needed to go in another area and they moved it to the proper place. Scared me at first till I realized what had happened. Thanks for the hard work.

The boards look great!
Only takes a few perusals to get acclimated!
I do have a query;
Would it be possible to have a category (or sub-category) called Scandanavian?
This would include Denmark, Norway and Sweden proper and also Iceland, Finland and the Faroe Islands.
Randy
Hi Randy,
There has been a lot of discussion among the members of the volunteer group on how many categories should be provided. Currently the group is working in the background on re-titling (as appropriate) and re-categorizing all old discussions into the new discussion sub-topics.
There was a trade-off between having categories that are too broad, making it difficult to find specific topics of interest, and too narrow, and thus essentially empty. Also, there was the concern of overwhelming members initally by having too many categories. So what you see now is a compromise in every respect.
Currently, all Scandinavian will be moved into Europe (other). In the process of renaming, preference is given to discussion titles that state the country first, such as "Sweden: revenue stamp identification" or "Iceland: First flight cover" etc.
This should help you to quickly identify all Scandinavian topics within "Europe (other)". The discussin board also provides for a search function which should also help to identify topics of interest by using Scandinavia, Sweden etc. as keyword searches.
It is very possible that once we have made substantial progress we see that there are actually very many discussions on Scandinavia. At that time, we could create a new sub-topic and move discussions on Scandinavian countries from Europe (other) to their new home. We just did not do this initially for the two reasons given above.
Your suggestion indicates to me that you agree with the organization of discussion topics by collecting areas, instead of lumping almost everything in "General Philatelic" as in the past.
Let me use the opportunity to please ask everybody to start using informative titles. "Need help," or "The Mail" are completley useless. Instead use: "Need help with identification of a Washington 2c stamp", or "Showing some pictures of an old post office." Then use your best judgement and pack the discussion in an appropriate category.
I assure you, other members will appreciate it, you will get better responses to your discussion, and new readers will have an easier time browsing through older topics and picking out what is interesting. As indicated above, it is good practice to lead your title with the country when posting in any of the "other" categories (Europe, Asia etc.).
Arno
Arno,
Understood - thanks for your fine explanation; I am in total agreement!
Onward!

I guess I must be getting old...this will take a bit of getting used to for me. Not that the changes are bad--I think I'm am not dealing well with all the changes going on in my life. Not that I'm OLD or anything....
