re: Far Eastern Republic: stamp identification

Far Eastern Republic 1920 - 1921. This was a weird buffer state between the Russians and the Japanese. Didn't last too long though. Annexed by the Russians in 1922. The 7k on 15k imperf value cats at £1.10 mint and used. However the old 2nd edition Gibbons I use was published in 1974 so has probably gone up since then. You will need someone with a more modern cat for a realistic price.
Have fun Tim2.

re: Far Eastern Republic: stamp identification

A fascinating and little known period of history;

Far Eastern Republic
and;
Siberian intervasion
which explains why American Marines and Army technically invaded Russia, .....twice !
There are similar sources that detail the forces in and around Archangel on the western borders of Russia.
The movie Dr. Zhivago has references to those events and I think one of the last scenes was in Vladivostok

re: Far Eastern Republic: stamp identification

actually, the intervention included Brits too, and was really an effort to regain immense amounts of ordnance initially intended to help the Czar fight the Kaiser that the Bolsheviks wished to keep, even they had signed a treaty with the Kaiser to stop fighting; and the Allies and Americans wanted it back. At the same time, Allies were trying to extricate a huge number of Czechs (part of the Austro-Hungarian Army) who were POWs and represented the largest organized force in Russia.

re: Far Eastern Republic: stamp identification

Timeline for the Far Eastern Republic, one of my collecting interests:

1920: Amur Province occupied by the Bolsheviks, February 6, with Blagoveshchensk as the capital. Stamps issued.

1920: Chita in Transbaikal occupied by the Cossaks. Stamps issued.

1920: Far Eastern Republic established on 6 April, intended as a buffer state between Russia and Japan. It is initially composed of the Transbaikal region, with the the capital being Verkho-Udinsk. Stamps issued.

1920: Japan recognizes the Far Eastern Republic, July 15.

1920: Amur Province, Chukotka and Kamchatka added to F.E.R. in August (though Kamchatka never controlled by FER).

1920: The F.E.R. capital moves to Chita in November, after the Cossaks expelled.

1920: Priamur and Maritime regions join F.E.R. in December.

1921: New constitution written and approved, April 27.

1921: A coup in the Priamur and Maritime regions by the rightist White Russians, backed by Japan, establishes the separatist Provisional Government of Priamur in May. Stamps issued.

1922: The Japanese exit Priamur and Maritime region in the summer.

1922: The army of the Far Eastern Republic, commanded by the Russian Red Army retakes the Priamur and the city of Vladivostok on 25 October 1922. Stamps issued.

1922: The Far Eastern Republic was absorbed by Soviet Russia in November.
