...absolutely right, Michael!
I was particularly impressed with the article on hinges - thoroughly enjoyed it.
The accompanying illustrations of the various brands of hinges were great. I had to dig out my stash and compare what I had with them as soon as I finished reading.
I hope everyone gets a chance to read it.

That is a great article. I collect 19th century philatelic magazines and always was fascinated reading recipes on how to make hinges. I also have some antique hinges found on the back of a cover that was mounted more than a century ago and seem to have been handmade. I really enjoy historical research studies on all phases of the hobby.

John,
I agree as well in reference to your comment about the historical research aspect of our hobby.
...and how about that hinge dispenser pictured in the article - a fascinating 'white elephant' if I've ever seen one!
Randy
Yes, those were interesting articles.
My ex (we're on decent terms) does art with stamps-- I still send her big envelopes with all my defectives from sorting lots, and she makes all kinds of artwork; most related to journaling and scrapbooking.

The December 2012 issue of The American Philatelist has a couple of good articles to note:
- history of stamp hinges
- artwork created out of stamps, including a lady's handbag!
There are plenty of illustrations accompanying both articles.
