Steve, Great job. Some beautiful items there with a great insight into the history of such seldom seen items. Thank you for expanding my knowledge even more.

Dear Steve Swain,
You son of a gun!Reading your article was fulfilling and satisfying-exactly as if I had eaten a wonderful meal. Stop doing that-I'm getting too fat as it is!!
Seriously though, a lovely job. Thank you for that. That may be as close as I'll ever get to the real stamps.

Magnificent stamps! Thanks so much for introducing us to them.
Very informative article. I am amazed the designs of revenue stamps were so intricate.
Great Article and a magnificent read. Well done Mr. Swain.

Many thanks to my fellow SOR members for their very kind words about the 2 articles I've provided. I smile when I know that someone has reaped a bit of joy, and knowledge, about something philatelic. That's what the hobby is all about! I look forward to sharing more of my research with my fellow members. Thank you again.
Steve
Nice work!

Any one interested in these MUST read The Legendary Persian Rug and the Other High Value Civil War Revenue stamps by Thomas C. Kingsley. Having owned both of these back in the 80's. I can tell you I learned to fully appreciate the true art of an engraver! They are truely the pinnacle of the engraving art!
It is actually one of my favorite stamps!! These images have been pilfered from somewhere i just dont remember. They sure are beautiful and expensive!!!
The one is your article are outstanding. Thanks for sharing
That $5,000 is an approved proof that was never ordered. There was never a need for one. The 2nd pic is one that I am very familier with as I do own RB8, RB9 & RB10. The one you show is also a proof of RB10. The 3rd is a proposed essay from what became the 2nd series (blue and black) I also have these (2nd Issue) completed as well.

TheBlueDude,
"I have a nice revenue collection but can only dream of owning one of the pictured!."
I think at one time you had part or all of your collection on the net. If so is it still available for viewing.
Thank you in advance,
Ross
I have posted some Items in the past on a few boards. And would be happy to spread "The Obsession" of Revenue Stamps here as well if there is an interest. I also have a fairly complete collection of Pre-1946 Germany and States.
Revstampman,
I don't know if this is too far off-base, but speaking of revenue stamps, are you familiar with revenue stamps affixed to parcel post packages during WWI to pay a special war tax? If so, do you have examples? I would assume tags would be the most likely format to survive for the "cover" since the tax only applied to parcel post postage of 25 cents or more and at the time that meant pounds, not ounces, for the weight. (It seems 3 pounds was the minimum, but that's just from foggy memory).
Thanks for any enlightenment.
Lars
I am not aware of any "Special US War Tax Stamps" for use on Parcel Post packages during WWI. Unless you are refering to the Parcel Post Stamps. Standard US Revenue stamps were used for a time for this purpose as well. And, Yes either would be way off topic for this thread. But, a new one could always be started
Greetings SOR,
Fellow member Steve Swain has just published a fabulous piece in our articles section entitled The "Persian Rugs" - Extraordinary U.S. Revenue Stamps. These are fascinating stamps and Steve has really done them justice with an engaging write-up and spectacular layout - don't miss this one!
