I'm not seeing any difference except the postmark appears to make the stamp have a different design but maybe I'm missing something?

Alyn from this scan it would appear that black ink has been rolled and smudged across the surface of the stamp.
That is what I first thought but a close up shows that the ink appears behind the red of the flag.
Maybe it is just my eyes getting tired of seeing it, and trying to figure it out.
The black would be behind the flag, if the red was applied after.
However, to me it looks like it is the black ink of the cancel that has become smudged. The smudging effect follows the lines of the box cancel, which shows signs of smudging at the bottom left as well.
Looks Like You Found the Oil sands at Fort McMurry,Interesting how its not on the Red Thou.
I see a magic marker swath across the flag and beyond. I dont see a color error
On another board, it was suggested that waterbased ink soaked in to the white and tagging portions but was washed off the red when the stamp was soaked.
Oh well back to the hunt. Thanks everyone.

Sure is a nice dramatic colour shift and the 'white' portion of the flag appears to be missing entirely (?)

There's no color shift. It is a smudged cancel.
A lot of these recent Canada and US stamps were cancelled with spray devices using an ink that smudges just from being looked at.
Hi came across the stamp on the right while sorting and soaking my accumulation of on paper everything. I looked through my '09 Scotts and 2012 Unitrade and can't find a missing colour variety listed anywhere.
Has anyone else come across this?
Many thanks and all the best.
