If my collecting habits were submitted to a psychologist for analysis, I'm sure I would be labeled as having ADHD. I'm a worldwide collector and tend to bounce from country to country as the mood strikes me. Just in the last month, I started new albums for Cuba and Luxembourg, bringing about 600 stamps into my collection.
Up next - tackilng a pile of unsorted Japan commemoratives that have sat in my "to do" box for years.
You mentioned Israel - oddly enough, I have exactly two Israel stamps, both damaged from a letter I received ages ago. Maybe I need to do something about that....
Well not a new country but a new topic for me. Before I started collecting stamps seriously I seriously collected ephemera including advertisements, magazines, maps, tickets, posters... if it was paper and old I collected it. My ephemera collection morphed into a specific area of interest about 20 years ago focusing on Worlds Fairs and Exhibition related items. I have over the years sold or given away most of my paper collection (it filled a walk in closet) with the exception of the World Fair related items.
After several years of neglecting this collection I offered to put together a Chicago World Fair (Columbian Exposition) exhibit for our local library as part of the Heritage Trail history (US 12 Michigan Ave). At the time the trail was the only direct route between Detroit and Chicago. I sadly realized other then a few post cards I don't have a whole lot of Worlds Fair postal history to share.
Both ephemera and stamp collecting have led into other areas of interest for me including printing techniques, ink types, paper preservation and recently cleaning and restoration. But that is another discussion.
I recently bought a lot of mixed saels. Inthem were quite a few Latvian seals, or probably more accurately, pro-Latvian seals issued in the US. I starte writing up a few for a quick blurb unrelated to Latvia, per se, and ended up going to General Goppers, a Latvian soldier, patriot, and Scout leader. It was the latter that got him executed, but i get ahead of myself. So here is the germ of a possible new collecting focus: pro-Latvian seals and labels, especially on cover.
A second area was rekindled by a recent Lee Payette lot i won featuring a St Nicholas Post seal tied to cover. Even better, that cover was mailed to Canada.
So, one new venture and one rekindled.
David
Anyone collecting something new? Since I study Biblical Archaeology, Israel interests me so I am going to start an Israel Collection. And since I already have a small collection of 1st edition books by Dr. David Livingstone and Henry Stanley, I am adding stamps related to them specifically. (mostly Livingstone obviously)
How 'bout anyone else?
And Thanks to michael78651, Also starting a U.S. Flag Collection
