Really interested in knowing "WHY" five versions of each stamp were necessary. Any interesting story behind that?

Different companies were contracted to print the stamps. Each company printed the stamps with subtle differences that identified the company that produced the stamps.

Michael, Thank you for answering. That is not an interesting story but it explains soooo much, as I sit here looking through catalogs, seeing multitude of the same stamp with different scott numbers.... Almost reminds me when we u.s.tax payers were paying $200 for hammers, but hey... what do I know..

Sorry, but sometimes the mundane facts are what have to be reported.

If you want interesting stories.....I think you will find that in my books!
