Using Google Translate, I got this translation, which isn't exactly clear: "Although the men on the bridge of the submarine with tension track the sinking of the torpedoed steamer, the bridge watch nevertheless provides full attention to their monitoring service." Do we have a German speaker on board who would be willing to provide me with a translation in good English?

Bob, that's actually a good translation as regards to having the full meaning of the text. rare that you get something that close. It could be edited as follows to say this to give better meaning in English:
"Although the men on the bridge of the submarine are tense from the sinking of the torpedoed steamer, the bridge watch nevertheless provides full attention to their lookout duties."
The caption under the picture says, "The bridge watch searches the horizon".
