Muscat and Oman, but listed under "Oman" in Scott #76-78 Mint NH $8.50 (2011)
Roy
SG lists these and similar issues under "British Postal Agencies in Eastern Arabia".
Nigel, are there IDs and values in SG.
2008 Gibbons #76-78. Set of three unused = 80P.(just about minimal value)
We're all over the map here, David.
I've got these in my collection and, surprisingly, correctly identified (as far as I am concerned). I am always
pleasantly flabbergasted by the depth of philatelic knowledge on tap at Stamporama.
John
Is it possible that between 2008 and 2011 these stamps increased in value 10 fold and, if so, what drives this, sorry, omnibus. Or am I misreading?
David
Now that's an odd discrepancy between Scott and Gibbons. I use an old 1991 Gibbons for identification purposes and my 1991 agrees with Michael's 2008: 80p. However I have always thought this set was worth a few dollars (agreeing with Scott).
A search of eBay.com completed transactions for "Scouts Oman" shows one MNH set traded in the last two weeks for $4.85.
However, a search of eBay.co.uk returned about 5 sales, all between 80p and L1.50
Make of that what you will!
Roy
thanks everyone. Looks like these are more valuable here than in UK, which probably points to relative availability, rather than demand.
I have seen other instances where cross-Atlantic prices bear no resemblance to one another. I have divested myself of all my old albums, save one of the original pressings of the Blind Faith album; in the states, the various pressings all go for little while in the UK, they often top 10 pounds (my keyboard wouldn't let me do the Alt+ stuff).
thanks again for your help
David
"original pressings of the Blind Faith album"
my bad, Roy
and for those of you who grew up with Cold Play and Nirvana, Blind Faith was an English blues/rock band with Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Rich Grech, and Ginger Baker. Clapton and Baker had played together in Cream; Grech and Windwood in Traffic, both of which had great success and both which played music a bit outside the norm. Blind Faith continued that tradition, but with a single album, ended probably by an explosive chemistry.
You got that exactly right, David....!
Excellent!
...and in my opinion, they were a better group than all those put together that you mentioned!
when I first stumbled on these, I thought they were Qatari overprint errors, but now I suspect there must be a simpler, and less financially rewarding, answer. What are they?
they are from the 1957 commonwealth omnibus, but aren't listed in the common design section nor are there clues to the other countries using them.
so, what are they, if you please?
