Not 'unidentified' as such but I'd be interested to know if any SOR members can give me a little more background information regarding these 1c labels? 'Bedding and Upholstered Furniture Inspection Stamp'. I assume perhaps something related to checking the standard of items of furniture etc? Or I could be completely wrong!!

Best Wishes from Scotland

Here are two sites which shed light on the bedding inspection tax in New York and Pennsylvania.
The New York tax stamp looks very similar.

See section 8c.
I suspect that the stamp was put on the "Do Not Remove Under Penalty of the LAW !!!" tags that hang from just about every filled item of new bedding or furniture sold in the United States that so many people assume means them.
The restriction applies to the manufacturer or retailer.

Tom,

Can't tell you much about the history, but I can tell you this much;

Issued in 1951, Louisiana bedding stamps were discontinued on July 6, 1985...yours have a catalog value of $5.00 (US) in mint condition, each ($4.00/used)

They are listed in the SRS State Revenue Stamps Catalog (also known as the Troutman Revenue Catalog) as catalog number BD2 under the Louisana heading.

A side note;
there was a very similar bedding stamp issued around the same time that was just like yours except it said "Department of Health" instead of "State Board of Health"
(...the ones that say "Department..." are worth a little more...)

Sorry I can't give you more info!
