Wonderful Wizard of Odds:
I've gotten the new emails showing your progress....wonderful!
However, the date it shows for the posting of the message is "Wednesday 31st December 1969"....odd.
If it can be repaired, we know you can do it, wizard!
The new changes look great!
Two questions:
1) Is there any way to add a "last day" or "last week" option to the discussion board page?
(I now see that this option is available at the top of the page--never mind)
2) I really like that images on the membership profiles and the discussion board will be automatically re-sized to fit; will the same be true for the auction?
Thanks again,
Frank
Hi Gary,
Yes, I noticed the date in the email was formatting incorrectly. I should be OK now. Thanks for letting me know.
Hi Frank,
I haven't implemented an automatic resize of the images in the auction, but the same technique would work fine. I'll look into it.
Please continue to let me know of things that aren't working correctly.
Regards ... Tim.
Hi Tim,
This looks great! The look and feel is almost like the old discussion board, but I can sense the underlying technique is completely up to date and improved. I think it will be a lot easier to use this new version.
Jan-Simon
Another great job Tim. The new image uploader is just too simple now, even I don't have trouble with it. Thanks for all that you do for us.
Mike
Question: when will the old discussion board be deleted? Perhaps you can make redirect from the old address (www.stamporama.com/discus) to the new board.
This looks great Tim!!! I just memorized how to post an image on the old discussion board without having to look it up. I'll be glad to forget it.
Bob
Jan-Simon,
I don't have an immediate need to delete the old discussion board off the server. It is current sitting in maintenance mode so people can't post anything to it. It actually serves a purpose to have it there for a while, there are lots of sites and references out there to postings on the old DB.
That is a good idea to do a redirect from the stamporama.com/discus/ URL to the new DB. I'll do that.
Regards ... Tim.
I really like the new format of the discussion board, but I have been having a hard time figuring out which discussions (Topics Page) have new posts since I last checked. The way I used to know there were new comments was the hyperlink on the Topics Page turned a different color on the old discussion board. For some reason that is not changing on the new board.
When there is a hyperlink I haven't clicked yet it is dark blue. Once I click it, it turns green. It is staying green on the Topics Page when new posts are added where in the old system it would go back to the dark blue.
I know there is a column for what time the last post was but then I have to think what time was it when I last checked. Many times I'm clicking into discussions I have already seen.
I'm currently using IE7 if that makes a difference.
Bob
Nevermind... I think I just figured it out. There are numbers next to the Topic. Didn't notice them before. They are reducing when I read a thread. Cool...
I just noticed that I'm signed in to post. Do you have to be signed in to see those numbers? I don't see any way to sign out to check. I guess I just have to wait until my session expires to see.
Bob
Thanks Liz...
Bob and Liz,
You are quite correct, the number in brackets against the topics indicate the number of threads that have posts that you haven't read yet. You don't have to be logged in, it remembers who you are and what you have seen.
Another useful way to see the posts that you haven't seen yet are the "Last Day" and "Last Week" links in the blue navigation bar at the top of the screen. On clicking on one of these you will see the list of threads that have had posts in the last day or week. The threads in these lists that have posts that you haven't seen have a little "New" graphic just to the left of the thread name. On selecting the thread that you haven't read, the screen will be positioned at the first posting that you haven't read in that thread.
Hope this helps.
Regards ... Tim.
Excellent in every aspect - was thinking that the server is down but then tried posting a test message and came to know about these wonderful changes Tim has made - once again thanks Tim for making it more interesting. Have missed many messages so now I am going through everything and getting the hang of it.
Love it!
....so now how does one receive an e-mail with the 'new' posted messages. I've been away for some time and I've missed all the info on the new message board. I also note that I no longer receive an e-mail of postings.
Help,
Wig
Hi Wig,
In the members area there is an option "Discussion Board Email Notifications" where you can select the topics that you would like to receive email notification from. I hope this answers your question. If I can help you more send me a message in the Stamporama message system.
Regards ... Tim.
Hi Liz,
The rules for the discussion board are posted under "New User Info" under the General menu drop down. That is what it was called in the old DB so I just did the same thing.
Regards ... Tim.
Hi Everyone,
I have implemented the new Stamporama Discussion Board. I still have one task to do before the email notifications will come out every 15 mins as per usual. I have the following documentation posted in the articles area to help you understand the new features of the system. As you all ask questions I'll enhance the documentation further.
General Overview of the new Discussion Board
Membership Profile Enhancements
Message Formatting Tags
Image Upload Within the Message
