Good idea Tim.
might I suggest a stamp outline,with perfs,and an image of- Stamporama-since(insert date)and at bottom www.stamporama.com.
Or Member of Stamporama
Then we can have a panes of self adheasive stamps made for placeing on our mail pieces.
purchased by members,or as a welcome packet to new members.
I'd buy a couple dozen panes.
In fact,no matter what the logo is,I'd like stamps with the logo image to dress up my mail, even to bill collectors,,and advertise Stamporama in the process.
TOM
Tom,
To get a better idea of what he's talking about, look up at the top of your browser and you'll see a small squarish picture in the address bar. That's what he's referring to... if he were to try and fit all that you mention in the previous onto that little picture, it would be impossible to read it.
-Allen
Allen,
not to debate the point, but isnt there already stamps depicted in that corner?
How much room does it take to put the same thing,in the same space, but with different wording other than United State Postage,5 cents,George Washington.Or am I looking in the wrong place?
TOM
Allen
I am looking in the wrong place,,
that itty bitty,3/16 th inch (4mm)image of the Queen?????? I thought that was a computer error,a square dark spot.didnt even notice it was the Queen until you all said it was.
To make that spot noticeable, you need a multicolored ball, rotating, changeing color.Which has no meaning at all,non stamp related,,but anything in motion is an attraction on the web.
Or how about a flash. The queen changeing color ,3 or more, every second.
Tim,
dont know why that little square bothers you.Maybe because you are more sensitive to details.
I didnt notice it until it was pointed out to me. I thought you were talking about the top of the page-left,that has the changeing image.
It would be easier to just move that program to the icon spot.
TOM
edit to add,I'm not submitting an example nor entering the contest, just makeing comments, and stumbling along on something I know nothing about. Icon???? we have an icon?

Ohhhhhh I see what you're talking about. The box appears as an orange and white 'thingey' in my address bar. I've never even noticed it before! That is supposed to be an image of a kangaroo? I wouldn't even hazard a guess as to what it looks like other than an orange square with white swirls inside the square.
Liz
Liz, i'd never have looked there; but i see it. thanks. it's in BOTH the URL and the browser's title page name
i suspect that Tim might want to ask Mrs McGillicutty's 2nd grade class to be the judge rather than the VC given our relative ages and corresponding eyesight
In computer lingo it's called a favicon. I just tried creating one and it is very difficult to create something that small that's recognizable. I gave up. Perhaps I will try a little later.
Bob
Simplicity is going to be the key to making something that works for that. My suggestion would be a perforated square of some appropriate color, maybe red like it is now, with a sharply contrasting logo, how about the letters SOR diagonally from top left to bottom right? I've no good idea about how to make that on the computer, but when we did one for my site, that's all we could come up with that seemed to work well.
-Allen
Here is a quick effort
Brian
The letters might be a bit too small, Brian. Take a look at my son's web site at http://saveyourself.ca. The "SY" in the logo is probably just at the lower limits of easy readability.
Bob
Yes they are barely legible when reduced to icon size. It's not much space for 3 letters. Someone out there can do it I'm sure!
Brian
That is very good Perry, I like that.
Brian, here is what your image looks like close to icon size.
regards ... Tim.
Perhaps a little larger ....

Well, this morning I see the icon has finally changed for me,instead if machin,it's now the kangaroo,,in color.
So those of you contemplateing entering the icon contest, may I suggest "COLOR", no matter the design.
BTW,my desktop icon is twice the size as on this page.Hope it's at least that or larger where it's listed on the web search. It will stand out better.

Perry
I have no idea what happened here, but thank you, Perry. I tried to upload my image, smallified to 36 pixels height, and got an upload error. In any event, yes, it doesn't look bad. An image of a mint copy would be better.
Bob
I'll try again, with an image of a mint stamp I found on line:

I'm trying my image again .... trying to make the word STAMPORAMA visible.
Perry
The previous icon looked like a Machin and could be easily identified. Now, it looks like an orange/reddish blob. Could someone tell me what it is supposed to be?
Thanks,
Just don't have the time to to my idea. Sorry. My idea was kind of an off take of the Us Superman stamp. So, if any of you design guys want to play
with that, you are welcome to.
I recently got bored with the Stamporama Icon that appears to the left of your "http://www.stamporama.com" at the top of your browser page. I did have a British Machin there, which was kind of good because you could see what it was, but the colors (colours for our British and Australian friends) were boring. So I selected an Australian Kangaroo stamp which I though would be interesting, but when you get down to the icon size, unless you know what it is, you would never be able to see what it is.
So, I would like to invite you to enter a competition to replace the Stamporama Icon. I think a stamp would be good, but I'm open to any image you would like to put forward. It will have to be a simple image so that when it is shrunk right down to icon size (75px x 75px), you can still see what it is. The closing date for this competition is midnight March 31st. I will then create icon sized images for all the entries and ask the Volunteer Committee to be the judge. The winner will be annouced and implemented on the Stamporama website on April 14th. I will display all the entries in a post on this DB on or around April 14th. Please email me your stamp or other images.
Best of luck to all in this monumental competition.
Regards ... Tim.
