Well said-clear, concise and welcomed. The old adage that "Limits are therapy" applies here.
All good thoughts,

I don't see any controversy here...
I see the new user information under General on the menu bar as the last item to select.
Thank you Alyn. I was looking on the home page for New Member Information.
I really am going blind it seems!
I'll relay the information to the member who obviously could not find this information either.

Three of the four most interesting subjects to discuss are, Religion, Politics and Sex, especially combinations of the three.
The fourth is Philately.
It can be quite absorbing by itself.
I think discussion boards such as Stamporama are best when the poster stops and makes sure his comments do not cross those bounds.
No problem Liz,
I remembered seing it there when I was looking for the Discussion board formatting tips. Hope all is well and warm out on the West Coast.

Most of the Volunteer Committee's time is spent, if we spend it at all on SOR, on ooooohing and aaaahhhing Tim's latest proposals for making various elements of the web site better. Occasionally, we do other stuff.
We just completed rewriting those aspects of the bylaws concerning ethics; these were just posted. It's the usual ten commandments stuff: no lying, stealing, false witness. We'll tackle wife-swapping another day. Between the bylaws and the rules, (look to the upper left of navigation bar), we cover most of the behavior we expect. The Rules point primarily to the behavior we expect in the Discussion Board. I'll copy them below, just for the record.
"Why does he drone on so?" you might ask yourself. Well, we're trying to make the discussion board a better place by asking you to keep personal contact in the public forum to a minimum (for instance, responses to requests for trades; they really should be done off line, hence the previous request); and prohibiting ALL sales and promotion from the board. Just because X is interested in Japan is not license to post a message that you have Japan for sale or asking X to contact you on the board. Do that off-line. The Member Database has all the contact information you need to be able to do that.
We also don't want promotions of eBay lots listed in the guise of some interesting stamp or cover. If the purpose of a post is to acquire someone else's money, it doesn't belong here, even if there's other interesting aspects to it.
We're pretty serious about this. We will delete these posts. Serial abusers will be escorted off the premises.
Old Rules found under New User Information (excerpted)
Open to Everyone
Anyone may read messages posted on this board. Membership in Stamporama is a requirement to post messages.
The board should not be used for working out the details of a trade in public view.
NO Advertising!
This Message Board is for discussion purposes. Blatant commercial ads are prohibited and will be deleted as soon as seen by a moderator, so you would be wasting your time posting. If you want to promote your business or website, you may do so discretely. Contribute something worthwhile to a conversation and use a signature line (not over 4 lines) in your posts that includes a link to your website. Trading posts are not considered commercial, even when from dealers. Our policy in summation: "Contribute and be discrete, and you are welcome. Dump your advertising on us and you are welcome to leave".
This Board is Moderated
This is a family-oriented, moderated discussion board. Abusive or otherwise inappropriate postings are not tolerated and will be immediately deleted by a moderator. The Board is for the purpose of discussion of philately and issues related to Stamporama. Off topic postings are subject to deletion at the discretion of a moderator
