Sadly, there don't seem to be any stamp hinges equal to the old Dennisons (that's Dennison with "son" at the end, not "sen". Dennisen hinges are wannbes that don't measure up).
However, you can still buy Dennison hinges if your pockets are deep enough. There are currently four or five offerings on eBay, including a Buy-It-Now at $18. That's a lot of money compared to the original price, but maybe not so much considering how good those hinges are compared to anything else that's available. I expect that there are going to be many packets of Dennison hinges offered for sale in coming years; they will come, of course, from the estates of collectors from the heyday of collecting.

The last packet scanned has the following on the back of the packet
No: 54002
Dennison Manufacturing Canada Inc.
Les Fabrications Dennsion du Canada Inc.
Bowmanville, Ont. L1C 1A2
MADE IN USA/FABRIQUE AUX E.U.
The original packet is No. 48-064
Dennison Manufacturing Co.
Framington, Mass 01701 USA

One more note - the last packet of Dennison hinges scanned contains green hinges.
The Dennisen hinges (scan 2) contains white hinges.
I don't know what the original packet of 29 cent Dennison hinges contains. I don't want to open the packet.

I just looked in my box of "stamp supplies" and found four unopened packets of original Dennison hinges and one opened and partly used one. Two of them are Canadian, like this one:
I will have to decide what to do with these, because there is a greater chance that I will win the Irish Sweepstakes than use 4,000 -plus stamp hinges in this lifetime and the next (I generally mount at least five stamps per year in albums or on exhibit sheets).
I've been thinking about selling something in the Stamporama auction. Hmmmm…. Maybe I'll sell some hinges…. But first I'll keep my eye on those eBay lots.

Note to Tim: I got an error message when I posted the previous message, telling me to quote the number "1242447542-25105". Well, I've quoted it. I have no idea why the image didn't go through. I'll try again:
Bob
Your packet with the No. 54002 is different than mine. Mine has a different packaging and the number on mine is on the back of the packet.
Is that one of your Canadian packets?
I remember hearing a long time ago (maybe 10 yrs. ago) that Subway Stamps purchased all the original equipment for Dennison hinges and had planned on producing stamp hinges. Was this another one of my many dreams, or does anyone else remember this ???
Liz
That is one of my Canadian packets. The hinges in it are green. Just different packaging, I guess.
Subway does produce "Dennis'" hinges, but they haven't been able to replicate the adhesive. According to a post on the rec.collecting.stamps.discuss Google group, the old Dennison hinges were/are coated with adhesive made from horse hooves, and that's no longer allowed under FDA rules. So, will Dennison-like hinges ever be made again? Neigh! :-) Collectors who have tried the Dennis' hinges aren't overly enthusiastic, and Subway itself recommends their use only on used stamps.
Bob
I believe you are right, Liz, but, if memory serves, the result wasn't what they had hoped for.
Intersting that the FDA would get involved in this. I assume that there's a Canadian counterpart.
I'm looking forward to getting announcements of hoove-enhanced hinges from Canada along with my other announcements of cheap drugs.
David
LOL - Sorry I'm not taking the hooves off the horses to make stamp hinges - LOL
Would deer hooves work? I have four of them (Mommy & 3 bambis) standing outside my window thinking about eating my flowering bushes.
Liz
I didn't see anyone mention the Dennison hinges in the green envelope, the ones that are not pre-folded. What's the general opinion of these little critters?
Bob
I haven't seen or used those Bob so I cannot give an opinion of the ones in a green envelope.
As to Subway's recommendation that the Dennis' stamp hinges only be used on used stamps, I certainly would not use ANY stamp hinge on a mint stamp, but that's just my own personal preference.

An eBay auction of a packet of original Dennison hinges is going to end today at 1:50 p.m. EDT. The minimum bid is US $7.95 and there have been no bids. The lot # is 120419649059.

I have Dennison hinges as well, with various different packaging including the green and black packages.
So for Bob (Woodstock), the answer is yes - they work and are the same hinges.

I saw Dennison hinges for sale at a shop in the Shinjuku Stamp Centre, Tokyo, on Sunday at 500 Yen per packet (a little over US$5.00 at present)....g
As we all know, the old Dennison hinges were really one of the best out there, and they are no longer available, at least not a reasonable price, so would like to know if anyone knows where to find those "Green hinges" that I have been finding in albums that I am stripping stamps from. They seem to work just as well as the Dennison, but I don't recall seeing them advertised anywhere. Any advice or suggestions from anyone would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike
