copy with margins all around, looks to be well-centered in the allotted space. Got all the perfs.

This has nearly doubled in price (from $10 to an italicized $16 from 2008 to 2018, my most recent edition).

Are you sure the one on the right is on granite paper, and that it's not #53 Carmine on white wove paper?

@David

This is from your auction image:

I don't see any silk threads (i.e. "granite paper"), which would make this stamp the earlier #53 Carmine on white wove paper.

Edit: The stamps on the left are actually Scott #46. Picked the wrong denomination, but the paper comparison is still accurate. See the post four below.

thanks for all those who correctly ID'd the stamp I mis-ID'd. I've removed it from the listings. And I appreciate the explanations and images that show the differences.

re: How to tell Switzerland 53 from 62

In Roy's post, he is identifying a 30c stamp as #53 and comparing it to a 10c stamp identified as #62.

If these are Scott #s, there appears to be a mistake, as Scott #53 is listed as a 10c stamp.

I am no student much less an expert of Swiss stamps, but the difference in denomination seems obvious.

Whoops!

You are quite correct. There are three issues (sets) of that design in Scott. The first two are on white wove paper and consist of changes in color of the various denominations, but no other technical changes (i.e. 30c from vermilion to ultramarine, 10c from blue to carmine). The final set was a change to granite paper (small silk threads embedded in the paper) with some slight shade changes.

The collection I retrieved these from had incomplete sets of each and I mistakenly grabbed the "red one" from the first set because there was no "red one" present in the second set and I was focused on the paper difference.

So, you are correct, this is actually a comparison of Scott #46 30c vermilion on white wove paper, versus Scott #62 10c rose on granite paper. My mistake. But the paper comparison is still valid.
