Very fair prices, check his latest books out on Canada if you are curious.
I think the Newfoundland bond is especially interesting.
There is amazing stuff offered on this site!!
The back of the bond is interesting as well, I'll post a picture of that Saturday evening. I stole John's pictures for what you see above!

re: Got these two great BOB items today!

Not sure what kind of link you need but they are Canada War Savings stamps (Code in Van Dam FWS) and here's some on E-Bay:
https://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_nkw=Cana ...
A google search will provide information and the Canadian Revenue Stamp Catalogue has a section devoted to them. If you want me to have a friend scan that page I can post it here soon!
I don't collect all Canada revenue stamps, just certain ones, and these appeal to me!
I'll post the page from van Dam here tomorrow. It's a book every Canada collector should have. The Newfoundland bond is not there but it's not really a stamp. Devenney Stamps sold one in 2009 for $125. They are pretty darn scarce!

Here;s the back of the Newfoundland 1932 bond and a page from van Dam showing the War Savings stamps. I'm missing three on the page but they are too expensive to worry about!!

EDIT: My booklet pane is missing the tab which decreases the value a bit.
I have a copy of 2 FWS's on a thrift card shown in a previous post. I have no idea where I picked it up but it's a great item!!
If you filled your card you traded it in for an FWS2 which you cashed in. FWS3 and 4 are the French versions and are exceedingly rare - only one known copy of FWS4 exists!
I'll re-post the inside and outside of the thrift card below!

Bob, in an above post you say you have part of a booklet for the 8 red war savings stamps. I can't find a picture of what the cover of the booklet looks like. Could you post a scan of the cover of the booklet? The booklet, according to van Dam, has 4 panes but they don't show a picture. A full booklet is very expensive!! Even a partial booklet would probably not show up often!

re: Got these two great BOB items today!

Working on it Harvey. The booklet is complete. It's an attractive little booklet, printed in two colours (red and blue). The cover has a photograph of an attractive young woman, "Miss Canada," who is supposedly selling booklets and showing a completed one. The booklet has eight pages, space for 32 stamps, and information about cashing the stamp in and what the money will be used for. The booklet contains five different stamps, but is missing the ones picturing the nurses, the air crew and plane, the twin-engined plane, and the Spitfire.

About the Spitfire stamp: It's not included in the booklet pane I have (which includes the full selvedge), and I've never seen any other booklet panes with similar stamps. Was it issued singly, in sheets perhaps? What does Van Dam say? (Currently, on eBay, I could find just one of the Spitfire stamps for sale, and few of the others. They all seem quite rare.)

This is the booklet pane from my collection, with good if somewhat torqued centring, which seems common with many booklet panes of that period:

I'll try to follow up with images of the booklet in the next few days.

re: Got these two great BOB items today!

The spitfire stamp was separate - FWS6, and it also came in booklet panes. The panes are a bit pricey and I don't have one. I think the spitfire stamp only came in booklets since all the stamps I have seen have at least one flat side. I don't think FWS7 - 14 only came in booklet panes as well. Ditto for FWS5 as well.

Thanks for the BOB Bob. Laughing Great stuff. There's a copy of the first one on E-Bay right now!
EDIT: Sorry, I should have said there was!! I haven't spent much money for a while and the price was fair!! It only had one stamp in it, a spitfire. If you ever find a pane of the spitfire, they're pretty rare, so please post!

Just a thought, we know what the books look like where you mount the stamps you are saving but does anyone have either part or a complete booklet pane in its original holder. I have never seen part of an original booklet pane for any of the Canada War Savings Stamps in it's original booklet. Can anyone show the outside cover of the booklet pane?

@Harvey

The plate for the reverse of that Newfoundland Coupon No. 3 was engraved with an "engine turning" or "lathe work" process. Jacob Perkins pioneered the "geometric lathe" in partnership with (or as an apprentice of) another engraver named Spencer in 1815.

It was said to be immune to counterfeiting, because there was no way for a counterfeiter to accurately replicate each swirl by hand.

In that era, England was struggling mightily with banknote counterfeiting, and so a contest was sponsored in 1819. Perkins and Spencer moved from America to England to compete in that contest. They did not win a commission, but that doesn't detract from their pioneering efforts.

As they say, the rest is history!

Looks like the process worked similar to a "Spiro-graph" toy.
