Hi Harvey,
I bet if you reached out to the local Historical Society they would at least be able to give you some leads. Went to our Fall Festival this past weekend and there was a lady from the Historical Society there. She was a retired teacher. I talked to her for quite a while and she shared all sorts of history about this area, things I had never heard.
Joe, you might find something by searching the 1931 census??

The envelope was addressed to the egg business named bray Eggs and was owned by Fred Bray.
"Bray eggs" likely refers to the historical Bray Chicks hatchery, which was a major poultry business in Hamilton founded by Fred Bray. The business was taken over in 1963 and closed around 1967, so it is no longer in operation, though the original site is now apartments.

Thanks all! Our local historical society is pretty useless - I tried several times to find them open and finally just gave up! Another try or two is probably in order. Nobody seems to be terribly interested in local history. There is a local "paper" called The Masthead, maybe a short blurb in there might help!!
I'll give the census site a go later today and see what happens, thanks for that!
Also thanks for the information about the egg company. Any inn would need lots of eggs!!
EDIT: Just got in touch with the Masthead News, a person by the name of Richard. He has lots of local contacts and thought he could help. I should have thought of this before. I'll let you know if I come up with anything.
I once had a question about my home town’s history. I posed the question in a letter to the editor of the local newspaper. It was published (small town!) and I soon had a response that answered my question. But the rapidity at which small, independent newspapers are disappearing may already have closed that avenue for many of us.

When I bought my house in 1981 there was a large building behind me that, at one time, was an inn. It was torn down soon after 1981 and nobody knows if it was a named building at one time, probably in the 40's. All the old timers in the area are not old enough to remember. I can find nothing about a Renfrew House in Black Point in any of my resources! Can anyone help?
I actually own the area now where the inn was and would really like to know what was there. For this Google is useless!!!

re: I believe this was an Inn on my property in Black Point! RENFREW HOUSE
