Spain collectors are no doubt familiar with the annual gold-framed paintings series, issued under the "Stamp Day" banner from 1958 until 1979.
The first groups, consisting of 10 stamps each, were issued every March 28 or 29. In 1971 that was pared back to 8 stamps. In 1973 the date was switched to September 24 and 29. The 1958 issue depicted Goya's masterpieces.
The 1967 issue featured cave paintings, and the on from 1975 is described in Scott's as "Scenes from Apocalypse." All others feature works from Spanish masters such as Velázquez, Murillo, El Greco, Picasso, etc.
I assembled a spreadsheet listing Issue Date, Face Value (pesetas), Scott cat. no., EDIFIL no., and the Painter's name.
It helps quickly locate a stamp vs. a catalog search. I will be happy to share it in pdf format with any member requesting a copy. Just drop me a message in SOR.
