Tagging can migrate, which is why you should not have them mixed in with other stamps. Can enough of the tagging get transferred to other stamps that, after a certain time, almost none remains? This might be a very stupid question! If it is it certainly wouldn't be my first... or my last!!
Maybe a dumb question, but how could the migrating occur if the stamps are not touching? Kinda reminds me of the Exorcist.

Good point!! I sort of assumed you had mounted them yourself. If they have be like this for a long time then I guess migration is out!
Hi Joe...I have no idea how long they've been in that sleeve. I got those, and a bunch of other interesting stuff, winning a "mystery box" in a Vance auction via SAN. I have no idea if I'll make a profit on what I can sell from the contents, but I have had way more fun with it than I paid for it.
There are two issues of this group, one in 72-74 perf 12.5. The lower values are tagged, but my 50 center is not. I do not have any of the second issuing perf 13.5 so I cannot say if they are tagged or not.
My Unitrade catalogue somehow has gone missing, but I recall some years ago becoming excited when I discovered untagged copies of these issues (since that represents considerably greater value per Unitrade). Further research, and notes in Unitrade about the specific type of tagging initially used on the issues such that it faded or washed off with soaking, burst my bubble. Looking very carefully under good light and at an angle I discovered I could see a trace of a stripe where the tagging bars should have been, which I conclude proved they were tagged but faded. That said, there are legitimately untagged issues out there somewhere, but it likely would require a Greene certificate to convince a buyer.
That explains it if the tagging is subject to being soaked off or fading. Thanks for the info!
The stamps in my pic are mint w/full gum. so washing is out. Anyway to verify fading?
The stamps in question CV for $100.....no worth a cert.
oh well....as Nathanial said in "Last of the Mohicans"....."they stay where they lay".
If it was possible, would a scanner that scanned with UV light be an advange or not?
no idea and don't have one

Third row from bottom. The two stamps with no apparent tagging (Scott 596 and 598). While 598 in Unitrade has a "no tagging error" listed (T1), the 596 does not. Makes me wonder about both.
Any thoughts?
