The only place I've seen this is in Unitrade No. 09-C9. The overprint is inverted. Thought I'd look for some info online, but nothing, and no examples.

John, I've stayed away from the official perfins. But if I had to make a guess I'd say upside down is probably common. I could be wrong though!!
Hi bigcreekdad
yes, your stamp is 09 - C9. Position is 3, inverted as seen from the front of the stamp.
If you have access to BNAPS website, this file will explain all Canadian perfins.

I've never collected perfins so I'm not familiar with the 8 positions. Thanks for showing!! Are some positions worth more than others or is it mostly a random thing depending on how sheets are positioned? For official perfins Unitrade doesn't talk about positions, only types depending on numbers of holes!
If you have access to the 2024 Unitrade catalogue, look at pages 672-673 for a rather complete chart of all of the verified OHMS perfin issues and the various positions known. It gives the percentage of valuation by position based on the listed (generic) valuation of each issue. I presume the just announced 2026 edition also will have this feature, but likely on different page numbers. For the C9 airmail issue, whether 09 or 10 format of the perfin, this position is valued at 125% of the listed value.
I attempt to collect these issues, but all of the different positions would be quite a daunting challenge. Then there is the well documented reality that many available copies are fake perfins, and a few years ago the Unitrade editors decided some of the previously listed issues were never officially produced and released, hence were privately created (and thus were de-listed in the catalogue). In general, the 5-hole perfin issues are more challenging and expensive.

I have the 2023 Unitrade and they only give a price for the most common position out of the 8 positions. They say if we want a price for each position we have to go a particular BNAPS publication that is supposedly mentioned somewhere else in Unitrade. Obviously they changed this in the 2024 edition! I wonder how many of the perfin collectors try for all 8 positions - sounds like a big job!!
Mercifully, most of the OHMS perfin issues only are recorded to have one or two positions, with the ones having the most different generally the more common definitives. I welcome more than one position if it comes to me inexpensively, but I am not compulsively trying to collect all of the reported options. That said, I am certain there are a few collectors who specialize in these issues and do seek to secure all of the positions. I have seen offers of a position not recorded in Unitrade; rather than spend big on a potential rarity, I presume it likely is one of the many counterfeit OHMS perfins.
Whilst this may seem like nit picking, could a moderator please change the subject heading to read Perfin, rather than overprint.
I recall learning about forged wartime/post-war O.H.M.S. perfins that were made with an official (though obsolete) perforating machine. The forged stamps, IIRC, were said to be difficult to detect.

Anyone have a clue on this one.
