@Harvey
Would you consider getting a scanner?
I have said this many times so once more won't hurt. I need a new computer but don't want to get it yet. This one is very sensitive and it has many files I need for a book I am about half finished, a history of baseball in Queen's County. Until that is done I don't want to install any new hardware, such as a scanner or a new camera. So I have a couple friends who take pictures for me. One actually has a scanner that she uses occasionally but I would have to disassemble this book to get the page flat - way too much work! The picture is fine the way it is and if you don't like it you can just ignore it!! You're the only one who has ever complained, so far. I know the picture isn't perfect but then neither am I!
EDIT: A little bit of baseball trivia for my home county - the first game was played in this county in the early 1880's when gold was discovered in the Caledonia area in the Northern part of the county and baseball was introduced by American miners. Babe Ruth came to NS on a regular basis to hunt and in the late 1930's he was considered as a candidate for manager of the Liverpool team according to the local paper. The name of the team was the Laruppers and was supposedly given that name by a player at the time who also managed a local black boxer Tiger Warrington (twice Canadian middleweight champ). The manager was a boxing fan and a very famous boxer at that time was Max Baer Sr. (his son was Jethro on TV's Beverly Hillbillies) who was known as the Livermore Larupper. I've got much more!!
@Harvey
There are great deeals on scanners right now!
You could get one now and have it reay and save money!
Read above - I already have one that I will install with my new camera when I replace my computer!! If you don't like my pictures please feel free to ignore them!
@Harvey
That's great news you now have a scanner.
Your collection is amazing and using a scanner will show off your amazing collection, we can all learn from your collection!
I'm really looking forward to your 1890s material!
People who use albums have a bit of a problem using scanners, you pretty well have to disassemble the album to get a flat picture. For me, since my albums are quite full, it's too much work and I might damage the material. A scanner if fine for stock booked stuff, material in binders and covers but for an album, as I said, not really doable. I have a regular desk top scanner that eventually I'll be able to set up and a wand scanner I've never really used before. I think that might be useful at some point!
@Harvey
When I used an album I always used an album that had 3 ring, so I could take out single pages.
I know this might sound a bit silly but my albums are very important to me. My wife put most of the numbers and prices in a long time ago and they are a memory of her. The albums are a bit banged up and the covers are repaired with duct tape to the point where they are impossible to unassemble even if I wanted to. The Russia, Poland and world albums aren't too bad but the US and Canada ones are very fragile!! We all collect differently but loose leaf binders and stock books, even though I have several, don't really appeal to me. As I always say, we are all different types of collectors!!!
Joe,
That is very true!
I was going through my documents and found this. I'm not sure if I've posted it before but it's an interesting page. It's the early Ireland stamps that are GB overprints. There's another set which is the seahorse GB set. I have three of the 15 so they aren't shown here. You can also see the coils which are hard to find as well. Some of the overprints show are also considered to be coils even though they are perfed on all sides!
