More than likely a chemically altered to eradicate the yellow. I submitted a similar "error" to BPA back in the late 80's and that was their verdict on that particular stamp. Also could just be too much exposure to sunlight.
In any event note that the violet color has also been affected.

No, this is a badly faded color changeling.
and BTW, there is no way this is a 600dpi scan. It may have been that originally, but it has been reduced, and therefore compressed to some extent.
My screen is 19" wide and displays 1680 pixels in that width or in other words 90 pixels per inch (rounding up a bit) i.e. 90dpi (actually ppi, pixels per inch, but we won't get into that).
The stamp image on my screen is about 1.5 inches wide. The actual stamp is about 3/4" wide, so it is being enlarged on my monitor by 2 times, or effective 180 dpi. If it were actually a 600 dpi image, it would display on my monitor as 600 / 90 = 6.66 times, or 3/4" x 6.66 = about 5 inches wide.
That's the math of monitors and resolutions.

This is an actual 600dpi, unaltered image of the same issue from one of my albums.

The stamp measures 5.25 inches wide on my screen.

Maybe the SoR system compressed it?
I do agree, it does not look so good.
Also, you have one too?
May be color fading, or a chemical reaction as mentioned.
So, not an ink variety to submit to Gibbons or Scott then.

No, Stamporama does not compress images on the DB. It either fits inside the maximum dimensions (something around 1200 x 1450 if I remember correctly), or it gets rejected.
If you scanned at 600dpi, you probably told your scanning software to reduce the size to fit the DB. That's pretty much the same as scanning at a lower resolution. The question only becomes, is the software better at reducing the effective ppi (it does this by discarding pixels its algorithm tells it will make the least difference) or does the scanner itself begin to lose effectiveness at lower dpi scans? On my scanner (Canon Lide) 100dpi actual scanning is the lowest I'd go. For "actual size" (on my monitor) I prefer 150dpi reduced to 60% size, giving an effective 90ppi on the monitor.
The following scans are raw 150dpi scans, not reduced.
Here are a couple of SS pages from that era.

Hi everyone!
I was searching through some stamps and found an odd looking one.
I've posted a 600dpi scan explaining more.
Is this a really rare Straits Settlements Stamp Color Omission Error?
Thank You!

P.S. I am just starting out collecting SS (S&S) and would appreciate any advice!
