Hi,
This appears to be die II watermark crown CA, SG 82a.
See the reversed "CA" at the left half-way down.
Silly question, but are you using a fluid to try and find the watermarks, or just a black background?
You might try using ImageSeluth 1.2.0
Nigelc....thanks. I still can't see it
Sheepshanks....fluid.
Maybe this image will help.
Thanks sheepshanks.
I like to hold stamps like this up to a bright light.
I'd expect to be able to see a Crown CA watermark from the front with the light behind it.
I don't use watermark fluid but I know many collectors rely on it.
Nigel, you have incredible eye sight!! That's probably why I try not to do watermarks unless I absolutely have to!
So I ran this thru Imagesleuth 1.2.0 see the scan.
It would be much much more better if you would of this, I expect a image of an image would return crude results.
Better as you have the stamp?
Hope this helps!
Nigelc.....I could have looked at this all day without seeing this. My eyes must have been born before me. Amazing. Thanks!
1899....that's pretty impressive. I could not load Imagesleuth. wasn't trusted. Damn!
Maybe soR members can help you out with your identification problems, it would take a little work.
Here are so tips from an old collector:
Cat. number, if using Scott the SIN number.
Used or mint.
Varieties list in Cat.
Hope this helps!
Finally got the program downloaded. Very neat tool. Thankyou 1899 for pushing it.
It's either Scott 68a or 84. Scott #68 would be Die I. But 68a is a Die II variant, with a #3 Watermark (CCA). Scott 84 is also Die II, but has a #4 Wmk (Crown Script CA). Can anyone discern either of these watermarks....I sure couldn't see any watermark. I've got a darn headache!
