Late 1945 the ball point pens became available in this country, (unknown about other countries), my interest is 1914 and older.
I just found this in my collection, no idea when I got it but loved seeing the nib pen cancellation (I got into fountain pens a little while back).
I'm new at identifying, but I believe it's a Scott 1862-71 R15 R2 2C U.S. Internal Revenue, orange ('64)
The best I can make out the cancellation date is Oct 18 1864 (though it could be a fancy 7?)... what do you think?

Here's one of mine with an added benfit of being an error.

I like pen cancels dated before 1945, but I think the best are dated 1914 and older.
