I've only used ImageSleuth (IS) for about a year, and find it easy to use, but expect more uses like:

Use instead in place of watermarking. I have had some success in showing easy watermarks to detect. More experiements to try out.

Use to review cancels. Some success reading cancels. I'm sure there more to learn about IS and how to properly use it.

Are there soR members who have more success using IS than what I have?

Any suggestions welcome!

re: ImageSleuth 1.2.0. Possible Good Tool for Identification

ImageSleuth V1.3.0 was released in June 2024. I think anyone still using 1.2.0 will find upgrading worth the effort.

For an overview of some of the enhancements, including a demonstration of how to isolate an overprint (which could equally apply to a postmark) please refer to this video - I apologise in advance for it being a little long winded.

There is another program called "Cancel Extraction".

See the scan, once you are there select Publications"

There are a few choices and one is "Cancel Extraction"

There are other choices you might or might not find interesting!

ImageSleuth is a great improvement on RetroReveal, which is nice, because RetroReveal is no longer with us. If I had to pick between the two, I'd still go with ImageSleuth.

I used to play around with color channels and contrast and brightness, etc., and you're free to do that, if you want to. IS does that for you.

Everybody has their own decision which is better,

For me RetroReveal was much better than IS, but of course it's gone.

Cancel Extraction works good for me.

"There is another program called "Cancel Extraction"."

ImageSleuth V1.3.0 includes a "Colour Erase & Replace Tool" with functionality similar to "Cancel Extraction" but with additional features, such as being able to select multiple different colours for removal and including multi-level undo/redo.

Please see the video linked in my previous posting: https://youtu.be/QL9QBjwgUCc?si=-FbV4SjA ... . It shows me using it to extract an overprint starting at 4:30.

We have gone through this song and dance before on this forum, where you first ask what people think about ImageSleuth and each time, you have concluded that RetroReveal was much better, despite the fact, as I have repeatedly pointed out to you, IS includes the exact same transformations that RR had and despite you having never given one concrete example of how you come to that conclusion.
I am not sure what your agenda is, but I will no longer play along.
Of course, you are free to use exactly what you like; you are not obligated to use or even like IS; it is completely your choice!
