Sorry, but it's perfd 10!
The last 5 perfs overlap on the 10 gauge.
Though, they fit the 9.8 snugly!

Unlike some catalogs, Scott does not identify stamps by the 1/4 perf, only by the 1/2. I just checked out a bunch of Perf 10's in that series. They all measure tight, in other words closer to 9.8 than 10, as you are showing. This is normal for this issue. I know it is documented somewhere but am on my way out the door to the dentist. Will check back.
Ari,
Try posting a pic with the stamp at the perf 10. Your stamp is most likely a Scott #597. Your scan shows that the left 4 perfs do not align with the holes. I know that perfing stamps can be difficult at times. That is why I use a Kiusalas specialist gauge for all my W/F.
Perhaps a little bit more informaton on the Kiusalas gauge would be a benfit for you.
The scan is my Kiusalas gauge, as you can see I've used it for many many years.
Also scanned is the paperwork that came with it.
I'm not saying you need this gauge, but for United States stamps it really helps!
Thanks all of you.
I guess it probably is.
I won't bother you with a hole of the 10 since it also has those pesky 4 not aligned.
Can you email me a pdf of that gauge so I could print it out if possible?
Perfs are HARD!

I do not know how to do what you ask in regards to converision pdf.
But it would not do you any good, unless you know how to print on metal.

Hello everyone.
I was hoping someone could help me with this one cent franklin coil stamp that has me baffled!
It is the newer variety with Franklin's name spelled out.
Also it is a coil, but the perf should be 10 but it reads 9.8.
Is this a new variety? Or maybe a 581 with an experimented perforation?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks!
