If something doesn't smell right, it likely isn't. A guy at work relayed today that he needed to call Capital One about his card. Believe it or not, using the phone number on the back of the card, the call was intercepted and sent to an obviously foreign call center! There the rascal on the line was fishing for the zip code and cvc no. etc. Tom didn't fall for it and they abruptly hung up. Called Capital One again who knew about the scam and cancelled his card immediately.
They are getting more sophisticated every day. Be careful, everyone!
I've dealt with Phoenix for upwards of ten tears. They are totally legit. Are you sure they're winning bid email didn't go to your junk mail? Also, sending your card details across two emails is safe.
Let me know if you want to bid with them, or pay for your win, and I'll be your agent.
Several months ago, I placed a bid via SAN on a small lot from Phoenix. I lost track of the bid, but came upon it recently. On SAN I appeared to be the high bidder, but not all auction houses use SAN, so I figured that if they didn't contact me, then another non SAN bid must have one. It's happened before.
Just for the heck of it, I emailed Phoenix to confirm I was outbid. They responded that I had won, and were waiting for payment from me. I received no notification that I had won from either them or SAN. Seems Odd.
In any case, the lot was still there waiting for my payment. I went to their website and located my invoice, but, try as I might, I found no way to enter CC information (they say they take credit cards). I contacted them again and relayed this and the person who returned my email said she didn't know anything about website ( another oddity), and suggested I send my CC info via email. AHHH.... thanks but no thanks. Hardly proper protocol IMO.
Anybody ever deal with these folks?
