Western Ukraine, Scott No 84, I believe.
In addition: Y&T says Stanislau Issue, number 123.
Stanislau current name is Ivano-Frankivsk
The overprint stands for People's Republic of Western Ukraine
The trident overprint is very indicative of The Ukraine. It doesn't apply to this series but with early Ukraine stamps minor differences in the trident give different regions of the Ukraine. I have well over 100 of them to sort!! I've been putting that off for quite a while now!
Trident, I thought it was a fish swimming into the jaws of a shark. Guess I just failed the Rorschach test.
Thanks...I was way off in trying to id it.
rrr....
Not that far away,as parts of todays Ukraine belonged to the Austrian-Hungaryan Empire till the end of WW I.
Because of that overprinted stamps of Austria were in use.
Ukraine is a fascinating philatelic maze. Pieces of it have belonged to many other places. Hence, cancels from towns now in Ukraine can be found on stamps issued for
Austria, Austria-Hungary, Carpatho-Ukraine, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia, U.S.S.R. and Western Ukraine.
What great fun searching them out!
Austria related, but I just cannot seem to id this stamp. Help please. Rrr
