I am sharing from my collection of Egypt, the early stamps of Egypt prior to the establishment of the Monarchy in 1922.
For Philately there are distinct periods within this period:
1. The 1866 Turkish Suzerainty, consisting of overprinted Turkish stamps (Scott #1-7)
2. The Egypt Khedive Sphynx and Pyramid stamps of 1867-1875 consisting of several series with a variety of perforations. (Scott #8-28)
3. The 1879-1906 Sphynx and Pyramid series (Scott #27-42)
4. The 1888-1914 Definitive series (Scott #43-59)
5. The British Protectorate 1915-1922 series (Scott #60-74)
The Independent Kingdom was proclaimed by England in February 1922. Stamps initially were the definitive stamps of 1921-22 with overprints in Arabic.
They were followed in 1923 by the first pictorials of King Fouad (1923-24). I don't cover the kingdom stamps here. Kingdom stamps start at Scott #78 and end at Scott #322 with the establishment of the Egyptian Republic.
A few notes:
I just started to collect the perforation varieties of the first series (Turkish Suzerainty of 1866), so my page layout for page 1 has been expanded, but not yet filled up.
In addition in 1859 the Suez Canal Company started issuing its own stamps, with agreements with Posta Europea, the Egyptian Government and then the Suez Canal Company (which were only used for 40 days) until postage was transferred to the Egyptian Government. (shown on my page 3)
The printing and perforation varieties of the first Sphynx and Pyramid series (1867-1879) are hard to identify correctly, and my collection may have a number of mistakes. (my pages 2 ,4 and 5)
Here are, for reference, the album pages for Egypt, pre Monarchy.
