Well, these are the first Washington Franklins that I purposefully sought out to purchase and add to my collection. This is a decent looking group if I don't say so myself. Not bad centering overall and no "trainwreck" cancels. I especially like the 12c value and the 8c.

This falls into the "just because I like it" category. I really wish I could stay focused on my core collection! I have a strong interest in the American fantasy and romanticism of Native American people from late 19th / early 20th century. This is marked "Schlessinger Bros." Kind of in the vein of the Gibson Girl pinup look that was popular at the time.
I'm ticked off though because the one I ordered was postally used and then this blank card showed up. The seller is going to swap them out and make it right. To me, unused postcards are just remainders and mail that never got sent.

You might also need some of the ancillary, preliminary sketches and original story boards. Hahaha. It never stops Dawg. Shame on whoever passed you the collectors' gene.

Now in my Collection: Bantam stamps, all plates except No.9, which soon I will acquire it!. Scott #58 - SG48, MLH
Not sure if I put this on before. Australia #sg193a man with tail flaw. 1937 150th Anniv. of New South Wales
These are some fancy cancels I picked up recently.
The first two are letters, initials of the current Postmaster.
"L" from Griffin, GA for James H Logan, Postmaster 7/28/77 - 2/7/82
"EH" Waverly, Iowa, E.S. Hurd Postmaster.
Six point star from New Haven CT.
"Prison Bars" from Columbus, OH
Arrived today now in my Collection: Great Britain, Queen Victoria, Six Pence - (DJ), Lilac, Hairlines, Plate 4, 1864 Issue - Scott #39d - SG85. Another stamp with a Clear Profile of this beautiful very fine to superb used stamp.
OK, first I know my image is not the best, but with my vast knowledge of computers, it is the best I can do. The image posted by rtvstamps is really great. I am trying to learn, hence, my question concerning my image. My image has hair lines as mentioned in rtvstamps post. Does that make it a Scott #39d? I do not know what a normal 39 would look like with no hair lines. Second, can someone please point out the plate number? I cannot find one on my stamp.
Hello Mel!
Thanks for your comments. These stamps do not have the plate visible; in the print records published by Stanley Gibbons, the stamps without hair lines are plate 3 and those with hair lines are plate 4.
The hair lines appear finely in the corners but I don't see them on your stamp. If it doesn't have them then it's Scott #39, plate 3. Below I leave you the difference between both stamps. I hope this helps.
Rodulfo,
Many thanks for your response and very detailed explanation. I was looking for hairlines in the hair on the Queens head. I have the Stanley Gibbons Great Britain Concise, but am just now learning to read it. After your response, I went back and checked and it does show an example of hairlines. You are right, mine does not have the hairline, so I would presume that it is Scott #39 and SG #83. Again thanks. More information to add to my notes.
I'm glad the information was useful to you!. As additional information, your stamp with Postmark 723 was cancellated in Oxford Street, Southampton (Hants).
Added more to my Washington Franklins. I have 32 of these now. Only 220 to go!
Now in my Collection: Great Britain, Queen Victoria, 1862 Issue, VFU, 9p Straw, (TK), Plate 6 - Wmk. 24, Sc.40 - SG87. Use with Dundee Scottish Postmark "114".
Here is a cover, Folded Letter, with an interesting Free Frank from Brigadier General John Jones to The Adjutent General Beck at Albany, NY. This folded letter was in bad shape needing reinforcing on all the folds in the paper. The wax seals securing the letter have a vignette of George Washington.
Good stuff as always Vince.
I recently acquired this tiny cover. It has an embossed edge, a bit stained but an excelent strike of a red Johnson, VT numeral 3 with "paid" in the lower part of the 3.
From my Collection: Great Britain, Queen Victoria, 1858 Issue, VFU, Two Pence, Blue, (OE), Plate 6 - Wmk. 20, Sc.19 - SG36a. Use with light Barrel Numeral cancel.. White paper - Thin lines, shifted.
Nice stamp. Love the shades of blue on those early GB.
i enjoy this column, especially when it leads to discussions about ID or other elements that let the two participants and those of us following along improve as does Mel and Rudolpho's conversation on GB Sc 39
Well done, lads
@ernie - Thanks for your comments. Yes, the Penny Blues are very nice in engraving and color, I enjoy them too!
@amsd - Thanks for your comments; yes, when I am asked something and I have the information I like to share it and help.

I bought this cover for the drawing of a plane and paratroopers jumping. When I got home and had a chance to research the sender I found he was shot down during the italy campaign of WWll on his 49th mission, one shy of being sent home. There is a web site dedicated to him. https://www.reddog1944.com/RAST_97th%20B ...
Here is a picture of his plane before it crashed.
Picked up this really nice Canada #2 yesterday from a dealer in Montreal I have gotten great stuff from before. Three out of four margins are really nice and the laid lines on the back are really clear. Sorry, since a friend scans for me I don't have a picture of the back. It came with a certificate and because of the postal strike the dealer sent it by courier free of charge! I'm very happy to add it to my collection. I'm still missing #'s 3 (impossible!!), 6 (according to some experts it was never released), 9 (possible) and 10 (difficult, but possible) on page #1 of my Harris Canada album!
John,
That is a very nice find! And quite an attractive copy. You have reported some great progress on your USA and Canadian issues for your albums which are definitely interesting.
Jerrel
Jerrel I've put some of the other collections on hold a bit and concentrated somewhat on classic US and Canada stuff! I know the collections will never be finished but progress is being made to get a close as possible! If I can ever find them at reasonable prices I'd love to get used copies (mint is silly) of Canada #'s 9 and 10! There are also a few medium priced US classics I am missing, not many though! My Canada collection is complete from #33 to the end of my 1988 cutoff, not including provinces and variations of course. The album shows the Port Hood provisionals and those two spaces will never be filled. There are also a few pages where variations of the large and small Queens are displayed and a few spaces there will remain unfilled. Thanks for the comments!!
Joe
Picked up 3 Bankers Boxes at Auction yesterday. Half it was an accumulation of Switzerland in Printed Albums, (my weakness). The rest is a mixture of sets and singles on album pages along with half a ton of Blank Pages for Lidner Albums (it should see me through the winter).

Now in my Collection: Great Britain - Queen Victoria, 1858-69, 2 Pence Blue (Penny Blue), Plate 9, (OC) - Letters in all corners - thick white lines below postage and above two pence - Issued Stamp. Scott No. 29 and SG45 - MLH.
Very nice looking stamp!
Thanks for your kind comment. The penny blue ones are very pretty, in general English stamps have beautiful engravings!
Cheers!
Rodolfo,
Love your collection!
That image may be the most recognized in all philately. Love the Queen's crown. It's got quite the provenance.
Thanks for your kind comment Ernie. Yes, the Crown is very beautiful, I also like the stamps from the Queen's Machines series, the design and colors are very attractive!
Cheers!
Not philatelic, but perhaps pertinent to the topic:
I took this photo on Aug. 17, 1994 when Queen Elizabeth II was in Prince George, BC, to preside over the opening of the University of Northern British Columbia. I'd been hired by the city to photograph the event. A complaint I read in the newspaper was that the queen never smiled. Really?!
Shortly after I took this photo, I was one of two photographers allowed into the city's new community centre to take additional photographs. Feel free to download this photo for your own needs; photo credit appreciated, of course.
