From the 7th of October Royal Mail will increase 1st Class from £1.35 to £1.65. International Standard increases from £2.50 to £2.80.
Added to all that the Exchange rate is estimated to increase to $1.40 before the end of the year. (Current rate I use is $1.25).
That has a familiar ring to it, "We lost 748M and want to recover 80M of it, not the whole 748 because that would probably shut the whole system down and there would be no mail service in Canada"! Does anyone know of an intelligent government that is not bankrupt? I don't think there are any on this side of the pond anyway!

"Does anyone know of an intelligent government that is not bankrupt?"
by the term "criminals", I would guess you mean all of those people we actually, or not, elected to office. It's amazing how when the US was organized as a country a lot of those jobs were "honorary", which means before some scumbags found out they could get paid for doing the job and also make some pocket money for themselves. And we wonder why it costs so much to just mail a simple letter!!! It Canada gets away with their "BS", guess who else will join that parade? Better buy a lot more of those Forever stamps and use the real postage stamps first before they become obsolete because they takes so many of them to mail a simple letter, or post a bill.
Speaking of posting a letter, does anyone even mail letters to family or friends, or is everything done on a computer today?? Maybe except for Christmas or Birthday cards?
That last thought brings to mind how many of you are interested in FREE stamps at no cost to you, except for the postage, via a SASE? I did quite a few years ago and doubt that many of the ones that wanted stamps are even still around today, if so let me know, just for curiosity's sake! I have been cleaning out my closets, drawers, stock books and such in an effort to clean up my stamp room and have a LOT of world-wide stamps to give away, for postage only. There are many countries with hundreds of stamps and many smaller countries I have condensed into similar or related countries. If you are interested in receiving any of these pre-1975 stamps please respond "only" to my email address and not on SOR, tell me what countries you are interested. All stamps have been assembled in glassine envelopes by country, or including colonies to make a good amount of stamps to send. I was trying to be very careful to sort out any faults, but am sure I did miss some, but not many since this collection was well maintained and cared for and I didn't find that many faults, but did dispose of those that I did find. There are no promises of values, but some stamps, or sets, may reach $4-$5 dollars, but they would be few and far between, but then again I need hundreds of cheap stamps to fill some of my own collections, so I appreciate any stamp that will fill an empty spot in an album. In reality some of the cheaper stamps are harder to find since most sellers want to sell their expensive items first, which is obviously expected they would do, thus that reason there are not many cheapies listed.
OK, I did not intend to write something like "War and Peace" here, but I must be getting close. Please RSVP and let me know your thoughts and wants.
Mike
I am sorry to have jumped in there and made my announcement so soon, but it is still alive. I did however fail to mention a couple of things. I forgot to suggest interested collectors list at least 3 to 5 countries they are interested in because there are a lot of countries missing or have such a small amount of stamps that I combine them with other related countries and please restrict request from any foreign countries. Not that I don't like you, I just can't put up with all the rigmarole involved with the mail systems anymore.

Canada is asking to put up mailing a letter by 25 cents in January of next year.
