I have a 2007 specialized but it only goes through the end of the war (1945)
Hi
MNH, Michel 197DDI =500 E
Michel 207: MNH=30, used=80, on cover=150
Michel 209: 35, 130, 200
Michel 338b ???
Thank you both for your responses. I like the sound of that 197, but this one is showing as just 197 and no letters and include 197, 207 & 209 issued with the double overprint. This group looks like the 10N17, 10N19. 10N21 Soviet zone Germany issued in 1948 and 366b is like the 10N42, but a much different CV. One thing about collecting is the challenges they throw at collectors.
Thank you again for your assistance!
Mike
Hi Mike
Michel 338b (Scott 133) is from German Democratic Republic, 1953.
Unlike Scott 10N42, it has a different watermark and the colors are slightly changed and in addition some types of paper.
It is a rather difficult stamp to identify.
Watermark types are difficult to see and measure.
I recommend you to observe how the stamp bends - for MNH and MH apply a small source of heat and for used put it in water - see the red arrow in the image.
Interesting - I've never run into direction of bend as a way to ID stamps. Are any US or Canada stamps IDed this way and I just haven't noticed?
EDIT: Just thinking - does horizontally laid paper bend one way and vertically laid paper bend the other?
Thank you again Gerom, but it looks like I stepped on Florida road apple with this one and it is certainly getting more confusing, especially since I don't even find any examples of these mystery stamps, but maybe I should try the European Ebay or other sites. And maybe I should stick to something I know at least a little bit about.
Mike
I have a couple of oddball stamps from Germany that say can be found in the Michel Specialized catalog. I have 7 Michel catalogs, starting in 1972 through 2008 but none are specialized, of course. The numbers I am looking for are (Russian Zone) Mi 197, 207, 209 & 338b - w/double O/P. I am anxious to see if I come out smelling like a Rose, or the other popular option!
Thank you in advance for any information you can supply!
Mike
