Hi Richard,
Good to hear from you.
And happy to know Kira is still collecting.
Yes, hinges are still a popular tool for many collectors of used stamps.
And some can be pricey.
However - if you are wanting to use them for low value stamps, then I would suggest low cost hinges.
The original Dennison brand in the green package are the only peelable ones in the market today and are no longer made so can be expensive.
Ihobb.com in California sells Prinz hinges for 3.95 per bag of 1000. They are OK but here in Florida they will curl once opened, because of the humidity, and you have to re-fold them. Several other online dealers carry these as well. I’ve bought from ihobb.com since the 90’s and have found them to be reliable. I really wish that I could find a source of Dennison hinges or something similar!
I found a bag of them in one of the drawers of my desk. They seem to be quite old and a considerable amount of them have been used by the previous owner, but still quite a few remain. I put them in the auction, for anyone who is interested.
Hi Richard,
Glad to hear from you, and that Kira is still collecting. There are many of us here who enjoyed your updates on her progress.
I sent you a private message.
My regular sources, have been out recently. Hobby Lobby locally has stopped carrying them. I just received 10 bags for $35 with free freight. Vacuum sealed. Came from iStampMounts.com Supersafe brand. I agree with everything mentioned above about the old Dennison. I have found that by using saliva very sparingly with Supersafe the stamp will still stay in the albums, but still peel reasonably well.
@musicman: Glad to hear from you too! With School over for the summer, Kira has more free time for the coming weeks I didn't know there existed 'peelable' hinges.... hehe
@joesm: Ah I see that https://www.ihobb.com/ has 3x types of hinges (and can ship to Canada!):
* Supersafe Hinges (mentioned above by @musicman as these 'peelable' hinges) for $3.95
* Fatso Hinges for $4.99
* DAVO Stamp Hinges for #5.99
I am not sure which ones would be the best choice here...
@Jansimon: I checked the link to your store, but I don't see any Hinges...?
@Benque: Hello to you too!! hmm I will attach a couple of recent pictures from community members sending her stamps for her birthday in March (including a few souvenir sheets I purchased here in the Auctions for her collection, and the Catalog @Patches sent her!!)
@Betyar68: It seems that iStampMounts.com does not ship to Canada ...
Thanks for all the info!!!!

I have some Prinz hinges somewhere if any wants them. I do not use hinges.
I stamp mounts.com lists a Dennison branded folded hinge. Has anyone tried these yet? If so, how do they do?
Joe--I tried the new Denison last year. No better or worse than the Prinz and Supersafe. IMHO.
I texted with the proprietor of IStampMounts.com. He can ship to Canada. Rather than using the site to order, send your needs directly to:
Richard Kauffman richardk@istampmounts.com
He will send a pro forma invoice. Make sure to include your shipping address.
BTY--the hinges are 5 packages per.
Thanks, Betyar68. Actually, I’m fine with the Prinz brand until they curl due to our humidity here in Florida. Have you had that problem with the Dennison brand there in Texas?
Every brand I have tried has curling problems here in Texas. I noticed that the vacuum sealing helped keep them looking nice until opened. But after opening, they deteriorate. I find that keeping the bags closed helps somewhat. I typically pour out about 100 at a time and keep the rest in the bag. After just thinking about it, I think the most curled ones I have had came from purchases from a retail store. Probably not a high turnover item for them. I was not unusual for 4-6 to stick together as well as curling.
I will experiment with plastic zip lock bags with minimal air inside it. I will keep y'all informed.
@Betyar68 - We have a similar issue here in WV. I kept a desiccant pack from some beef jerky and put the open pack of hinges in a ziplock with that. It cured the problem quickly.
Thanks for the help everyone. The desicant packet and a zip lock bag sounds like a great solution.
Joe,
Sometimes you can catch a "lot" of them on eBay that are available for a good price. Also, to save more money I cut the hinges in half and don't even wet half of that and no problems with them falling off. Good luck.

My Bricks and Mortar stamp shop in Ottawa, Ont. stocks them.

Thanks, Mike! Early this year I bought 2 packs of the old Dennison from someone at the stamp club. I absolutely love them and they do not curl. I know that you know about what our humidity does to the modern hinges down in Cape Coral! Now I'm back to the Prinz hinges. I bought 3 packs last year. Two of the packs are curled but, inexplicably, one did not curl so I bagged it with a dessicant packet and we'll see.
Maybe try putting the pack in the freezer? The model car guys put self adhesive foil there to keep it from aging out and curling
Greetings,
My daughter is asking me to get her some Hinges to handle used stamps she received recently; Is there an online source of Hinges that doesn't break the bank or is $16 a normal price for 1,000 of these tiny things?
Also, is there a different 'quality' to these or are they all the same?
Thanks for any Intel you can share!
