excellent question. and would the stamps/covers bear Russian, Ukrainian, or occupied territory markings? Who issues stamps in Crimea?
As far as I know, since these regions have been annexed by / integrated into the Russian federation, Russian stamps will be used there.
JanSimon correctly say, because after referendum there, territory become part of Russian Federation, and accordingly, Russian postage stamp are used inside this territories:
(sample from Donetsk, 2023 year)
Yes, as long as you consider those referendums real plebiscites. Sort of the same question as whether the anti Trotskyist trials in the Stalin period were real trials, not.just a show with a fixed outcome.
I remember watching those referendums with great interest. I did not know whether to expect an outcome like Jansimon describes, or ??????
What did lead me to accept the "official" version was the lack of any substantial protest demostrations after the outcome. I am well aware of Stalin's and Krushchev's depopulation and population-replacement efforts of the 1930's, as disgusting as they were, so was aware of the current make-up of the population in those areas.
We saw similar in Caucasus in the 2nd half of the 1940's.
The demonstrations following the recent elections in Brasil, compared to the lack of demonstrations in Donetsk indicate to me where the will of the people lies. I detest communism, in all it's myriad disguises (including fascism). If you are a common man, or a common woman; whether you live in a communist state, or a fascist state, the difference to you is indistinguishable.
Perhaps I am more cynical, but I find it hard to trust the outcome of a referendum in an area that has been occupied by a neighbouring country where most of the people that oppose the new situation have either fled the area or are too afraid to give their real opinion. Perhaps the part of the population that opposed the annexation or whatever sugercoated name they gave it did not vote? I am not sure if I would, because this was not an anonymous referendum. Those who organized it made it so that each voter had to submit his/her name with the vote.
I would agree with you Jansimon, if we had enough information to support your theory. A friend of mine living in Germany spent years negotiating the emigration of his family from Donbas to Germany. The reason? Constant, random artillery fire from Ukraine into the area where his parents home was. His family finally succeeded in emigrating in 2019. He visited them in Donbas often, following the Maidan uprising, and showed us photos, and videos where you could hear the artillery fire, and see the blasts in the distance.
There are very bad operators on both sides, stoking hatred, prolonging this war that should never have started. I lament the death of the Minsk Agreement, but moreso I lament the deaths of so many innocents. This "war" must stop.
JanSimon:
You know, we are talking, in principle about referendum that happen, officially - yes! If it is same as in Tirol, Sudan, and even Yugoslavia? Serbia?
As is, world go silent about this "referendums" and accepted it in some way, so Donetsk, Luhansk and Donbas, Crimea need just to be put in same box.
All of them have postage stamps, that are valid for postage, to pay this service, so we just need "good money" to spend, if we want to collect this "new" (in)dependent states!
In attachment You can see sample of Donbas and Donetsk, when they used own postage stamps, 2015 year!
you know Milco, sometimes it is better to accept that we disagree and let it rest. I think our views are different and will stay so, no matter how many messages we would add to this discussion.
Has there been any stamp issues or postal history regarding mail in the Russian occupation of eastern areas of Ukraine? I am not talking about stamps issued in Ukraine/Russia to just support the war.
