Very nice! Thanks for noting the vignette is used on other stamps - somehow never noticed that.
Question about the blue section on 119 - it appears to be shifted up a bit. Is that normal for this stamp?
Shifts of the vignette are normal. Having it dead nuts is the exception.
@Sally, hello there! Yep, Jack is correct.. those vignettes can shift all over the place. I thought this copy faced up quite nicely and it didn't break the bank haha.
I LOVE these vignettes and engravings on stamps, banknotes, stock certificates and other documents. Quite a few saw duty in a variety of ways.
Nice copy of #119, not easy to get. Thanks to one of the sellers here a few years ago I managed to finish that series right up to, and including, #122. He let me do it in a couple payments, thankfully. And, of course, the "biggies" are used! A really nice looking page!
@Harvey... awesome man. Not many have 122. I don't.
Thanks Ernie! Maybe a shouldn't mention names but I will!! A few years ago Greg was trying to get rid of some incredibly hard to get classic US material that he was selling for someone else. I got several thousands (CV) of very hard to find US stuff! He let me pay in a couple payments and I got material I would never have been able to get elsewhere. That included the last couple from the series we're discussing and several early Washingtons and Franklins. He was responsible for a major upgrade in my US collection. Another person was Carl. He enabled me to finish my 1893 Columbian set and the 1898 Trans-Mississippi set with some amazing mint stamps!! There have been others as well that have been a huge help! I thank them very much for the help with my US collection. We have some fantastic sellers here!!
Here are my three series mentioned above. I just had supper with my photo person!!!
Look carefully. I think that you have the $2.00 stamps swapped and in the wrong series.
Yep. Definitely swapped a couple stamps. Some good looking stamps there though for sure.
I never even noticed - no harm done! I got both from Carl at the same time and didn't even pay attention!!
I just switched them, my guess is that they were like that since I bought them a couple years ago!!
Edit: That doesn't mean I never looked at them, I did that very often - I just didn't notice!!!
Excited to add this beauty to my collection this evening. One nibbled perf on the bottom. Line on the upper right margin must be on the scanner bed. Landing of Columbus vignette showed up on several US stamps and on the reverse of the 1875 $5 National Banknotes.
